Phyla nodiflora.
Synonyms: Lippia canescens, Lippia incasiomalo, Lippia lickiflora, Lippia nodiflora.
Common names: Frog fruit, Bank Mat, Matchweed, Turkey Tangle.
Common Hindi name: Jalpapli.
Plant: 30-90cm. Perennial creeping herb.
Flower: 2.5mm across. Flower spike: 1-2cm long.
Distributed over E. Asia - China to Australia - New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria. S. America.
A common weed growing along stream banks and in grassy places.
The plant is anodyne, antibacterial, deobstruent, diuretic, emmenagogue, parasiticide and refrigerant. It is used in the treatment of hookworm. The juice of the plant is cooling and is used to relieve fevers, coughs and colds. The aroma of the inhaled plant is breathed in to treat coughs and colds. The juice of the root is used in the treatment of gastric troubles.
