Hi NIek,
Nice to see you back! I'm not very good at critiquing simple compositions like this and I know nothing of orchids. It is very sharp with good color and exposure. At first I thought it might be a little bright at the upper left, but without it the image loses "life"; so I think your choice was correct. I think the shapes and tones in the background are interesting. Speaking of amazing flowers growing wild,did you see those black iris that "fragman" posted from Israel? They are amazing.

I just checked Google Earth. l think Norway is as close to you as Montana, Wyoming and Utah are to me. So we can both be jealous! : ) I'm really looking forward to your photos from there. Did your dad get his Mac computer?? I'm curious since I ended up with the same one. I opted for the 20" monitor over the 23"or 30" because the larger ones were considerably brighter and I couldn't turn them down enough for my eyes. : P

I think that this is a Daffodil...Only joking!!
I have no idea as to the ID but I can congratulate you on the fine colours and details..The Bg is just about right for my tastes and really highlights this fantastic Orchid..And if it is a Common Spotted one then the Orchid namer was a little short of inspiration for such a glorious specimen.

A centered presentation is ok when it comes to botanic species.
The light control is perfect as are the details. I agree with tim that the background could have been a bit more blurred. Beautiful colors.

Nice to see you again here...we've missed you :)
A very beautiful photo from you of this wild orchid! Sorry to hear you don't have too many in Holland...from what i've read, we have quite a lot of them here and i'll try find one and take a nice picture about this year (although i'm not so keen on flowers, my self).
Anyway, i love the leveled POV you had here and the nice clearance it gave you for the BG - which is very nicely blurred.
The DOF is spot-on and it keeps the orchid is very good focus, its entire length. Just for my curiosity, did you try one with f/2.8?
Anyway, that aside, i also like the way the colors and spots of the orchid look on that pretty, uniform BG...that actually adds a bit more to the beauty of the shot.
Overall: a very beautiful post again from you, my friend!

Hallo Niek,

Ik heb getracht deze orchis met mijn eigen verzameling te vergelijken, maar ik kom er niet echt uit. Deze van jou heeft alle kenmerken van een orchis, maar is toch weer even wat anders zoals ik dat uit Holland, of Zwitserland ken. Zal ook wel wat te maken hebben met de plaats waar ze groeien. Deze is in ieder geval een beauty. Staat met daar toch even trots te wezen, van heb ik jou daar (-: Mooie en heel rustgevende compositie. Helder weergegeven. Mooie kleuren. Je POV, DOF en BG zijn goed. Ben even het WEB op gegaan en misschien dat jouw orchis de Early Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata ssp. ochroleuca) is. Ik heb een link hieronder, kijk maar. Mother Nature sure has a beautiful palette of colour, you captured it well here. Orchids are so exotic with interesting patterns. It's nicely composed to one side with good DOF. I can't wait for spring and the scent of flowers.
