Once again a very windy day necessitates a look in my archives. This is probably the last one that has a reasonable standard.

The Hairy Hawker (Brachytron pratense) is a relatively small hawker that appears early in the season, from March in S. Europe and middle of May in Sweden, to late summer. It is so-called because of the fine hairy covering on the body, that gives it a stout appearance.

Most hawkers belong to the Aeshna genus, to which it is related and superficially resembles.

This is a female, the males having blue instead of the yellow markings and the brown is replaced by black.

It is widely distributed in C. and N. where this standing water with rich vegetation and though quite localised it can be numerous where found.

This image was taken with the camera hand-held at a distance of about 2 meters and after slight cropping and size reduction it was selectively sharpened.

Hallo Ivan
The details of this dragonfly are unbelieveably beautiful. The wings look like they have been created out of glass. A perfect macro with super sharp focus. I think the portrait framing on this is excellent and the exposure looks just great. I am really stunt by its beauty. Congratulations, this dragon is perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards.

Hello Ivan! Wonderful sharpness and lightness. Amazing picture. Good capture. Perfect shot. Good luck!

Hi Ivan,
Amazing details! I can see the individual bristles on the abdomen friend! The reflections on the hymenoid wings wonderful. Splendid capture my friend as usual.
TFS and Regards,

Handheld and at that distance focusing is normally a difficult job. But results are very satisfying although DOF is very small, as it should be. Back to ohoto, i liked the greeen all over and the parallek possition enabling the ID pretty much. TFS

Hi İvan
this is very nice image
very good sharp and detail
well done.

The lighter greens and not too saturated yellows make a fine complimentary duo and help you bring out the fine lines in the structure of the Hawker....Do you carry a field book with you or do you know most of th4ese by heart now?

Hi Ivan,
Great pose capture of this beautifully Hairy Hawker, nice colors and composition. TFS.
Regards, Bahadır

Hi Ivan

Again when i saw this one i was a bit..."Did it already appear there?" :))
But then i read you note and saw that you are still having trouble with bad weather there :( I hope it would change and i wish you good luck after that in finding some great subjects!

Until then, i'm happy to enjoy this superb macro shot of this B. pratense - a species that i saw last year for the first time and one that i have to take a photo of this spring :)
Yours is amazing! Taken from a spot-on POV to shot the great characteristics of this species, shot with a spot-on focus and presenting all those lovely colors...it's just one for the books!

Well, this specimen is exceptional, even for your archive standards Ivan, a perfect tele-macro handled, as usual, expertly my friend, thank you indeed for sharing this beauty with us.
Best regards,

Neat image, Ivan.

Hi Ivan.
I can only dream about such picture. It is true masterpiece. It is not enough to say that your model is amazing. Reproduction of all its beauty are fantastic. We can see all even tiny details of the body, head (and, of course, eyes) and unbelievable reproduction of the dragonfly wings and its terrific mirror reflection. My congratulations.
