[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I found several of these newly emerged Alderflies around the pond edge this morning. Thankfully they all remained still which made photographing them quite easy, I found this one and knelt down in the mud and slime to get this composition!

People who were walking their dogs in the park didn’t half give me some funny looks when I returned to my car later!

This shot appears to be over sharpened but I think it is due to the insect being still wet after clambering out of the water.

I wass unable to get an ID on this one and thought it was a caddis Fly.Many thanks to Paul and Philippe for the correct ID; I’m going to have to invest in some books.
Its size was approximately 15 mm long (excluding antenna).

Some info…………………….

Adults are found in May and June they are weak fliers and last for just two to three days, during which time they do not feed .The emergence of adults is synchronised, so that large numbers of both sexes are present at the same time. Mating occurs at night, and females lay very large batches of eggs on plants that overhang the water. A number of females may choose to lay their eggs on the same plant, which may become covered in large expanses of alderfly eggs .After hatching, the predacious larvae fall into the water where they crawl around in search of food; they take other insects, small invertebrates and worms. After 1-2 years of development, the larva leaves the water, and digs into the soil or waterside debris to pupate. Two to three weeks later the adults emerge.

Nice picture, with a good composition and nice details. It is not a caddis fly, though, it is an Alder Fly , genus Sialis (order neuroptera and not trichoptera).

Wow, this was worth the mud and slime Andy. Good capture, great clarity and composition. Well shown TFS.

Very interesting composition mixing nearly equally three of the earths elements in the BG and this amazing critter linking them. In that way, and esthetically, it's a very attractive shot. Details on the fly head and thorax are a bit overcontrasted by a harsh lighting, but the wings are superb and, as a whole, it' a fantastic composition, Andy.

Andy, this is a winner.

Perfect composition and pov. The bg is lovely and colorful, and, at the same time, it's not distracting.

Great sharpness too.

Congratulations.

Hi Andy
A neat picture of this critter - not known to me, but it has nice details on the wings - looks like some SCFI warriors steed.

Dear Andy, Hi.
I like this great creative picture (as all your perfect shots) so much. POV and DOF are really outstanding. Colourful and perfect detailed BG is simply wonderful. The leaf and insect on it, insect's pose, outstanding sharpness and details of these objects are tremendous. BRAVO and TFS.

I also wish you more free time to fill your intro and share a lot of wonderful shots (every week at least).
Yours Alexei.
