Rubytail wasp - Chrysis ignita - Family: Chrysididae.
This is a brightly coloured wasp with a metallic red abdomen and bright green head and thorax. These wasps are often noticed searching over hot sun-baked surfaces such as old walls or fence posts.
Ruby tailed wasps are 'parasitoids' meaning that they eventually kill their hosts: the larvae of burrow-dwelling solitary bees. This wasp is a widespread and common species in all areas where there is a suitable host.
Food
Parasitoid. The larvae eat the grubs of burrow-dwelling solitary bees. Adults feed on nectar and pollen.
In the left corner we can see a efensive posture. Curled up so that only the toughest chitin of the wasp is exposed.
On the last shot the bee is starting to fly!!

Hi Didier,
Chrysidid wasps are hypernervous tiny creatures and I never arrived in time for any reasonable shot. But you, not only you make a good portrait of the wasp but you even take a shot when flying! The master at work!
