The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Polioptila caerulea, is a very small songbird.

Adults are blue-grey on the upperparts with white underparts, with a long slender bill and a long black tail. They have a white eye ring.

Their breeding habitat is open deciduous woods and shrublands in southern Ontario, the eastern and southwestern United States, and Mexico. They build a cup nest similar in construction to a hummingbird nest on a horizontal tree branch. Both parents construct the nest and feed the young; they may raise two broods in a season.

These birds migrate to the southern United States, Mexico, northern Central America-(Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras), Cuba, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Cayman Islands.

They forage actively in trees or shrubs, mainly eating insects, insect eggs and spiders. They may hover over foliage-(gleaning), or fly to catch insects in flight-(hawking).

The tail is often held upright while defending territory or searching for food.

Hi Luis,

Lovely bird image you are showing us here.
Most wonderful pose of the bird, feather details and color tones.
Perfect composition with the almost horizontal line of the birds body, the almost vertical line of the reed and the diagonall line of the head and bill pointing at the lower left corner and the tail pointing at the lower right corner of the frame.
Excellent DOF and sharpness.
Great work. A real joy to look at. TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Que bien dominaste la luz en esta toma Sr. Luis jeje. El conjunto es rebuscado por la posición del ave y de la rama, pero el resultado es efectivo y atractivo a la vista. Buen enfoque y preciosos colores.
Como siempre, un buen trabajo.

Hi Luis

Yes I saw this species in Belize in December, but no luck in shooting this one, they are busy little guys.
You have done a good job here. Great sharpness and well composed on a great OOF background.

What a nice image of this unusual bird!
The blue colouring is beautiful!
Superb clarity and detail.
Very good composition as well.
It must have been quite windy seeing as the feathers are very tangled and sticking out... unless this bird can't preen himself very well :-)
Well done Luis,

Joe

Hello Luis,

What a fine shot!
The sunshine and shadows have had an interesting effect on his feathers!
He is looking very alert. Perhaps he has noticed a gnat on the ground!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your warm comments on 'A change of character'.

Again, a fine blue-on-blue composition Luis, the favourable low POV, spot on focus and fine timing resulted in a perfect capture my friend, those dorsal feathers were ruffled by a strong wind, I think. TFS indeed!
Saludos amigo,
Mehmet
