Sounds like touch and go but I'm glad the day turned out a success and that nature saw fit to provide all that natural reflective material :-) Great image of a beautiful bird. Are you planning any dates in May or June? I'll be back in the UK and would love to come along.

Hi Miles,

This kestrel is freezing. The capture is sharp and I like the colors. The crop is a bit tight and I would have a little more space on the left side but that's just a detail.

Hello Miles,

What a beautiful image of this lovely bird of prey.
Seems like the bird can use a little warmth looking at the way it has its head almost pull in to the shoulders.
Wonderful wintery scene with some snow on the perch and at the bushes in the background.
Excellent sharpness and exposure and due to that colors and feather details are very beautiful.
I also like the vertical composition very much, but I personally would have placed the Kestrel a little of center in the frame with a bit more space on the left side to give it a little more space to look in to, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.

It was worth enduring the cold for a shot like this!
The sharpness and the details are excellent!
I like the way he is just turning his head so that the small feathers around his beak are pronounced and the glint is caught in his eye!
