[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today was a very sunny and warm day. No surprise that the weather forcast was for rain!!!
With the weather being much better than anticipated, myself and my good lady decided to go for a couple of short walks.
We started at Christmas common in Oxfordshire, I will post some of the shots from there later this week. I managed to get some good bluebell shots.
This afternoon, we returned to an old favourite place, Wilstone reservoir nature trail in Hertfordshire. This is a good place for a wide variety of wildlife, with a good trail along the wendover arm of the grand union canal.
This is where I found this little Cardinal Beetle.
Here are some facts about this beetle.

Description :
A bright red long bodied, slow crawling beetle with an unpleasant taste when eaten by birds, hence ensuring their future safety. Like many members of the beetle family, they have two pairs of wings, the hind wings only being used for flying. Antennae like fretsaw blades are a particular feature. The flattened larvae are yellowish in colour and have two prongs at the tail end. Taking three years to mature, they live in dead wood.

Distribution :
Throughout the British Isles with more presence south of the Midlands.

Food :
Wood eating, these beetles may cause damage to trees.

Habitat :
Generally found on flowers at the edges of woods.
