Frirst of all I would like to thank all of you for viewing and there wonderful comments on my previous uploads. Highly appreciated.

This time I'll show you an older image taken back in July 2003 during my first trip to Alaska.

Although I've got quite a few shots of bears catching a salmon on top of Brooks Falls, or atleast bears with jumping salmon in the same frame, this one is a little special for me.
After two days I had to try something else.
Was'nt the easiest shot to take, not because my hand was'nt steady enough or the Vibration Reduction of the 70-200mm was'nt working well, but more of the fact that the Grizzly was to to cooperative.
He refused to held his head still for a split second most of the time.
Did take me a whole roll of slide film and at only two of the 37 images the head of the bear was sharp enough.

From Wikipedia
-----------------------------------------------------

Grizzly bears reach weights of 180–680 kilograms (400–1,500 pounds) and stand 2.44 m (8 ft) tall on their hind legs; males are on average 38% larger than females. This sexual dimorphism suggests that size is an important factor in the male's ability to successfully compete for and attract breeding opportunities. Their coloring ranges widely across geographic areas, from blond to deep brown or red. These differences, once attributed to subspeciation, are now thought to be primarily due to the different environments these bears inhabit, particularly with regard to diet and temperature.

The grizzly has a large hump over the shoulders, which is a muscle mass used to power the forelimbs in digging. The head is large and round with a concave facial profile. In spite of their massive size, these bears can run at speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour). Although, they are slower running downhill rather than uphill because of the large hump of muscle over the shoulders.

Grizzlies can be distinguished from most other brown bear subspecies by their proportionately longer claws and cranial profile which resembles that of the polar bear. Compared to other North American brown bear subspecies, a grizzly's pelt is silver tipped and is smaller in size. This size difference is due to the lesser availability of food in the grizzlies landlocked habitats. They are similar in size, color and behavior to the Siberian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos collaris).

Hope you like the image as much as I do.
Thanks in advance for viewing and comments.

Best wishes and have a great day,

Harry

Hi Harry, great action shot of this Grizzly fishing. 1/20th of a second worked well to catch the motion of the water, yet it was still quick enough to catch the bear in a good sharp pose. The bear is very well positioned within the shot with excellent exposure on the bear giving us excellent colour and great sharp detail.

Thanks, John

Hi Harry,

Exellent capture and shot from these grizzly bear in his natural habitat.
Beautiful colors and pov.
Exellent exposuretime, the water is not freezing.

amazing capture, TFS Ori

It is nice of you to explain the shot Harry. It is easy to just shoot a bear standing idle in the forest, but this was well worth the many tries on film. The only thing I do not like about this, is that it makes me want to go to Alaska and try seeing a similar sight, and I don't know when that could happen haha.
Very professional photo!!

Hello Harry,
Fantastic that you can get this sharp image at low shutter speed. The water movement is well seen. TFS this fine image.

Hi Harry,
It's a beautiful photo. f/16 gave you a very good DOF, and with 1/20 sec you got the motion of the water which looks beautiful with the still main subject. You're lucky that he managed to keep still for a short while. Exposure control, focus, sharpness, POV and composition are very nice. Good work!

Incredible colour and the composition is just stunning! But, ummm, how were you within 200mm range safely? Surely you were almost on top of this bear?

Hello Harry,
You can't have it all:-). You got a beautiful fall here due to the 1/20 shutter speed. And the bear is sharp enough...a rhetorical question whether the bear should be sharper or not.
I imagine seeing its head moving all the time:-)
Awesome image!
Congrats

You did a brilliant job technically, showing how fast the water flows, and on the other hand capturing the body language of the waiting bear to catch fish.
