A troop of beautiful scarlet waxgills that I’m pretty sure are (Hygrocybe firma) a common species found in mixed broadleaf forests of the west coast of the south island. They are also found in eastern Australia, south-east Asia and tropical Americas.
They can grow to 80mm and have a cap of up 30mm diamter. There are several other species that can easily be confused with this species, and examination of their microscopic spores is essential for unequivocal identification. However the pale line on the bottom of the gills only appears to occur in this species.

Thanks again to Steve (LordPotty) for showing me these in the Arnold River Reserve. Captured in super-macro mode using a mini-tripod with natural light.

Hello Chris!
maybe some specimens of this mushroom species are a little out of focus, but the objects are fantastic! I have never seen so red mushrooms! Great natural colours and nice low POV.
TFS and all the best from Poland!

Hello Chris,

after the stark blue the stark red mushroom! Incredible the colour. You did a very good job rendering the fungus, the subdued light and the contrejour helped. Thanks also for the informative note.
Best regards
Dietrich

Wow, very interesting shot, well managed shot showing all the details especially the gills. The red also make it so out standing.

Hi Chris,a fantastic choice of point of view as your style and a incredible quality of colours,nt easy to take so perfectly in the shadow, thanks a lot for share, you're your fungi's master, have a nice day,Luciano

Hi Chris,
Something in my style. :) I mean in most of the cases I also use macro or super macro mode, natural light and sometimes mini-tripod, too. Beautiful subtropical Hygrocybe (a very photogenic genus), nice colors and POV. A pity that some of the fungi are a touch out of focus. But a good pic overall.
Regards, László

Nice one Chris.
You captured this clump nicely.
I have quite a similar shot to this one too ... wonder why ?

Hello Chris,
I've really got some catching up to do here! What a fine sharp shot of this bright scarlet fungi from New Zealand that sounds a good place for interesting fungi! Excellent composition - I like the dark leafy background very much.
TFS and regards, Ulla
