English name : Late spider orchid – Scientific name : Ophrys fuciflora - Family : Orchidaceae
Description : The rare Late spider orchid produces a single upright stem and between 2 and 10 flowers on a spike. The pink, purple or sometimes whitish flowers have a broad lip which earns this species its common name due to the similarity of this structure to the body of a spider.
An area towards the centre of the lip, called the 'speculum' or 'mirror' features a purple or blue pattern in two parallel lines or in the shape of an 'X' or an 'H'.
Pollination by male bees of the genus Eucera.
Photo info : Picture taken an afternoon in a field under a grey sky, you can notice few raindrops on petal... Only cropped, resized and framed for TN and my website. For the frame, I tried a square, do you like it ?
Technique : FUJIFILM FinePix S6500 - Mode A - Auto focus - Aperture f4.0 - Shutter speed 1/250s - Iso 200 - White balance : cloudy - Metering mode : matrix - Flash not fired - Focal 100mm equiv - File JPG fine - Handheld.

Bonjour Christian,
Tout simplement magnifique. L'image parfaite, comme on rêve de la faire. Et un sujet rare, qu'il faut trouver.
Et tout cela sans retouche. Un grand bravo. Bon dimanche aussi.

Hi Christian

Wow, this is beautiful. I don't know if this orchid necessarily reminds me of a spider, but looking at this full-frontal view it for sure looks like it could represent some kind of a creepy-crawly.

This is the way an orchid should be displayed. A lovely bloom in full view with a developing bud or 2 on the same inflorescence in the background etched against an OOF natural, perfectly neutral and evenly coloured BG. You did this one out of the book my friend. The details are razor sharp, the colours are absolutely pleasing on the eyes, and the composition is perfect with the flower slightly to the left and running through the frame at a angle.

Excellent work and TFS.

Hi Christian

Excellent shot of this beautiful orchid. The green OOF background allows the sharrp details to stand out really well. Very sharp image with good DOF.

Thanks for posting.

Hi Christian,
Wow, wonderful image mf!
Technically excellent..This flower looks like a "clown" to me..
With very strange pink ears.
Or maybe a jack in the box..from a horror show ;}
Very well done,

Bonjour Christian,
C'est une très belle image très détaillée mais que je trouve tout de même effrayante.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
