The very first leafs on a a Red Maple tree. I too this image on May 17, 2008 which was yesterday as per the day posted. Eventually the green blossoms will turn into the familiar helicopters we all remember as children. But on this warm day in my small area of the world, nature is coming alive in the grasses trees and brush. Dried from winter and some even grayed, new green now pops through and the hills are becoming an emerald colour.

The Red Maple...it is much more common on the east coast of the United states, where my own ancestors who were Quakers, used the tannins for inks and dyes. There was little syrup in this type of Maple, although some. the wood was used in many fashions. I have even seen drawings from old books in my family genealogy of clothes pins made from Red Maple. Now this particular tree is only 100 feet away from my computer room window. It is a resting place at night for sparrows , I think vesper sparrows who sing until the sun goes down, then start again when it arises and fly off for a days worth of foraging. Last night we sat quietly and listened until the last of dusk had gone and then it was quiet.....

Hi Bob,
Wonderful image of the awakening of this tree. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person that called the seeds "helicopters". Splendid colors, focus and composition Bob, thanks for sharing.

What an incredibly beautiful image of the Red Maple waking up after a long winters sleep. Too bad images like this last for such a short time, and then their gone until next year.
Talking about those tiny helicopters, they have been flying off of our neighbors trees all week long. TFS.

Hello Bob

This is stunningly beautiful capture.
A wonderful macro of the maple tree flower.
The colours are rich and vivid. The lighting is excellent.
Sharp focus and detail.

It is said nature have its own beauty..... You have to find it out. And - you found it.

Dear Bob,
Very well captured photograph of nascent maple leaf with faded background of ?flower/leaf. The red maple is my weakness. I had been appreciating them in Massachusetts a lot. In India, you do see them in sub himalayan belt. I had asked you before also, who is R Shannon??? Cheers for the great shot.
Regards-Subhash Ranjan
