[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Then, Sunflower, peep over the fences
And cover the hillsides with gold,
And out in the cornfields, if tempted,
Again take thy claim as of old;
Salute, too, and nod to the stranger,
Who travels the dusty highway,
He'll worship the sun crown you're wearing
And love you for brightening his way.

Edward Blair Of long ago Kansas State

This is an annual, 1 to 10 feet tall which is a problem particularly in the Mid-West. The seedling cotyledons have a rough surface with a slightly lobed margin, tapered into a point. Stems beneath cotyledons are green with stiff white hairs. Leaves are alternate with toothed edges. Both the leaves and stems are covered with hair. The large flowers are yellow with brown to reddish-brown centers.

In my wilderness these are a sure sign of the mid-spring and good summer to come. They pop out all over the mountainsides usually at the 3500 foot level and then downwards. This particular bunch was at the 2200 foot level in elevation out at Fish Lake. There are so many of them that folks just pass by without noticing...or if they do notice, they most likely do not say much, although my daughter did mention them yesterday when she drove out for a visit. When you see them close in as this, they are much prettier than seen in large clumps where the green leaves are dominant. Either way they have a purpose....perhaps even if just for me and this one photo:-)

It must be great to see these flowers completely wild. Here they've got so popular in gardens I can't even remember seeing one wild!
I like the POV and composition which leaves some space on the left for the slightly angled flower to "look into" :-)
Very sharp and very detailed.
Great light and natural colours.
Superb BG-blurring DOF.

Well done Bob!

What a way to brighten my day! Great image Bob, Extremely sharp and detailed. Perfect lighting and exposure.
This is one of Rosie's favorite flowers, they just make you want to smile for some reason. We used to have sunflower border on our walls, sun flower light switches, sunflower flour and sugar containers etc... Nice work Bob!!

Hi Bob,
Aha.....a wild sunflower and a beautiful one too. Very impressive sharpness and lovely colours and I can imagine how that place would have looked with these everywhere. It pops out so wonderfully. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Namastay Bob,

Bonjour Bob
C'est un merveilleux macro et les couleurs de ces fleurs sont très jolies ,les détails et la composition sont supers.
J'ai bien hate de les voir pousser ici.

Merci et au revoir....JP

Hello Bob. It is nice to be seeing this beauty in the wild. You have captured the fragile yellow petals in good detail and the sharpness of the stamens are commendable. Sorry that I did not come as often as I should to your collection because I was tied up lately. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Very pretty sunflower Bob. 1 to 10 feet tall - that's a safe number!! Pretty flower and they must be very hardy too.

Sunflowers are great and its great to see one growing in the wild in full flower in the middle of May!
Their seeds are not only nutricious to us but provide a great attraction at bird feeders and the flowers look so splendid. So it's great to see this image, Bob especially as the flower itself is so attractive.
But I have never seen it in the wild, as a garden escape yes, but not growing in its natural habitat, so this is a joy to see and TFS!
