Besides being simply beautiful in it's blue glory, it is medicinal. I mentioned this last year, but have been using it and find that it does indeed work! This is a grab shot I did on my afternoon walk on May 29th, 2008. Shot with the Fuji DSLR and Sigma lens at 800ISO and on macro setting which is needed for 300mm at 19 US inches...Hand held...I do not usually take a tripod on my walks:-) Hard enough on my feet to walk in the pain with a heavy camera on me. The Fuji is built into an older model Nikon body and with the long lens it is about 4 pounds...Strapped around my neck I think it cuts blood flow a bit so I carry it in my right hand with the strap as well for safety. My balance is still quite off so sometimes when my blood sugar starts to drop I can look like a drunk...carrying the camera doesn't help much but it keeps me busy:-)

Flax seed promotes the general well-being of the body and is very beneficial for treatment of a variety of health problems. Following is a suggested DAILY intake of the Flax seed. For best results Flax seed needs to be ground fresh with a coffee grinder immediately before it is taken. Flax seed can be mixed into 10 to 12 oz. of juice or water (make sure you take plenty of liquids). The suggested minimum daily intake is 1/4 cup of flax seed ground to a meal. The most beneficial amount for maximum nutritional value of the Flax seed is to take 2 tablespoons both in the morning and evening. Those with diabetes, diverticulitis, diverticulosis, insomnia, and chronic constipation should take 2 tablespoons of finely ground flax eed 30-40 minutes before each meal for the maximum health benefit. Finely ground Flax seed gently cleanses out any wrinkles and pouches that trap bacteria in the G.I tract, and it lubricates the whole intestinal system.

Great macro of this beautiful flax flower Bob!
The clarity and straightforward POV are superb.
Until I read your note I didn't know about the medicinal value of flax. It is grown here for the textile industry.
At my age until recently I also suffer from the burden of carrying a heavy camera and lens. However after getting an elastic harness the weight is now more distributed and spread onto the shoulders instead of the back of the neck, which feels better.
I hope you might be able to get one too1

Hello Bob,
Sometimes we can see whole fields of Flax here in South Sweden as some people keep up old traditions of spinning it and weaving. I've still got a beautiful handwoven linen table cloth that my grandmother wove. The flower has a lovely blue colour and you've captured it very well here. Excellent composition too!
Many thanks and kind regards, Ulla

Hi Bob. We sould call you Dr Bob you may know he was a famous person. You have a beautiful macro of the Flax . delicate colour and good detail with a nice POV/DOF. well done TFS.

Have a nice weekend.

Hello Bob,

I do so admire your determination to carry on and do the things you enjoy no matter what the obstacles!

This is a particularly pretty flower and the colour is gentle and pleasing! The flower is sharp and detailed.

I just feel that the composition would be improved with the flower a little less central. With your permission, I have done a little w/s. Please tell me what you think.

I am amazed at the benefits of this plant. My brother has just been diagnosed with diabetes so I will inform him of the benefits.

kind regards,
Bev :-)

The hymn "then sings my soul" perhaps says what I need to!This shows creation at its best!

Hola Bob.
Una foto muy simple pero muy bella, alta calidad y muy buen gusto en la presentacion. El fondo difuso le da mas valor, y hace resaltar los colores hermosos de los petalos de la flor medicinal.
I have a six pack of beer here, do You want one?
Saludos Bob.

Beautiful flower Bob,
Blue is probably my favorite color so this one really caught my eye. Wonderful detail and excellent sharpness.
I really didn't know all the benifits that flax gives you, thanks for the info. I'll have to try some in my diet.
I took my camera to work today and tried to photograph some small blue flowers growing along the towpath, which runs right behind the bakery. I was using my 75 to 300 telephoto in the macro mode, but they came out a washed out white color. I'm not sure what went wrong.
Thanks for such a beautiful image, and some really good information health wise.

This is 100% different from the flax that grows in NZ. Phormium Tenax and P. Cookianum http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo11484.htm
It is very pretty Bob, and especially as blue is my favourite colour.
I have seen and heard of flax-seeds in health shops, but I never ever realised what it came from
Thank you for this lesson

hello Bob,
Very aestethical shot of this fine blue flower. The colours are very subtle, I just would have decentred a little bit the composition. Amazing to read for how many diseases flax can be good.
Let's try
Best regards

Hi Bob,
A medicinal plant the seeds of which can do so much wonders to your body and a flower that can do so mcu wonders to your senses.Wow.....but i also think by shooting this little flower and presenting to us you have raised the prominence of its beauty to greater heights.I love the way it stands clean and crisp againt the muted BG and the colour is a real soother. I like the way a little stem bends its way by the side of the flower and i guess looking at their texture they are quite supple and not really hurting the flower. Also the clutch of hanging buds add to the beauty of the shot. Very well done Bob.
TFS & Cheers

Nice Bob. Detailed veins. good color & depth.

Hello Bob,
a most lovely tender flower that we also have been having here in dense colonies at some dry meadows near Vienna. I always like them for their beauty, now I am also being informed about by you of their benefits as a medical plant I did not know of. Thank you! With best regards,

Lovely capture! Gorgeous picture! Nice DOF and detail.

Hallo Bob
A beautiful straightforward yet beautiful flower portrait. A very delightful view with fine details to appreciate. This blueish colour is definitely very attractive and sunny, and just looking at this image brightens ones day. This is a splendid shot. I really like the simple composition with only a few specs of other colours in between. A lovely close-up which I enjoyed looking at. Thanks for sharing and have a most enjoyable day.

Hi Bob,

A nice close-up image of the flax flower. The details and colors of the flower are clear and sharp. The light brings out the colors. The subject is well frame. The note has a lot of information. have a nice day.

Hello Bob. Excellent clarity of this very well metered shot. Pleasing perspective. Don't you just love the the sharpness of the petals and the stamens. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni
