Hello John. Flying off close by gave you excellent opportunity to shoot one in flight. I like the striking orange beak and eye with good details of the plumage which is rather hard for black bird. Nice smooth capture just above the surface giving some sense of the height and perspective. Well done and thanks for sharing. Jusni

The bird is popping out of the photo John. Very good capture, as the sharpness and details are all so clear.

With a 200mm I can appreciate the reason why you'd want to get closer. Shooting birds with a lens like that is always an added challenge. At any rate this one the previous picture is wonderful. Great work.

Molto bello il momento di cattura con la beccaccia di mare che s'invola, il dettaglio dell'occhio sembra esprimere la paura, molto bella la composizione con lo sfondo del mare, ottima nitidezza, bellissimi i colori e leggibili anche in ogni tonalità di nero. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

excellent in-flight shot (with the 2 others in Workshop)
of this wonderful bird, i love more this one with a very fine POV,
DOF and framing, i love the framing of this one leaving space
after the bird and in front the bird, like that we kno from where
the bird is coming and where he is going,
sharpness and details of the black plumage are excellent, TFS

I like this capture very much. I was hoping to see this species when we were in NSW but didn't make it. Your focusing is superb with excellent sharpness just where it should be, and your panning skillful to achieve this.
A great in-fight of the sooty Oystercatcher and TFS this beauty!
