This photo could have the title "Take me to heaven" ;-)

You can see here pair of mating weevil beetles. They probably belong to the Phyllobius group.

It's a greenish weevils feeding on leaves that, as I found out, look quite similar and only expert can be sure what species it is. I'm not an expert [yet ;-)], but I think it might be Green Birch Weevil, because there is plenty of them on the Birches that grow in my garden.

Species of these beetles are very variable, especially in the coloring, which may vary from light green to a greenish brown or even plain brown. Their snout is much shorter and not as thin as in the most weevil beetles.

Green weevils actually are black, with a thin layer of green colouring. With many species the green may disappear, revealing the black beetle underneath.
When the beetles are "fresh" the green is intense and very beautiful, but the species very quickly becomes pale greyish green and even looses part of the colouring.

As I noticed it is much easier to take photos of mating beetles than of these not busy ones - after all there rather nothing strange in that ;-)
Anyway taking photo of single beetle is hard cause when he see you he will simplt play dead and fall down from the tree. I spend few good minutes trying to take such shot, but without good results.
The couple was easy subject, but the wind was quite strong this day and it was difficult to get the sharp photo.
I think this isn't bad so I decided to post it.

Great close-up of the two, Monika. Fantastic colors. I like the metallic green on the bugs, and the subdued OOF background. I really like the sharp details on the leaf too. Interesting capture, and a photo with great visual impact. TFS. : )

Hi Monika, very nice capture. Under that green they are a very embarrassed red! Good shot with nice details and good composition. I think these are Phyllobius pomaceus. Very nice.
