This is one of my first dragon fly photos ever. I saw some dragon fly photos on Trekanture, and thought I want one of my own. Last weekend on June 7, 2008 I went to a place in Washington called Canoe island, which is located in the Saun Juan Islands. I saw a few dragon flies, and it came to me that it was my first chance to get a dragon fly photo. On Friday I attempted it, and got a ok photo, but was unsatisfied, but had to go on because my boy scout group was yelling for me. Oh yeah, when ever you are in boy scouts, you hardly find time to your self or time to take a patient photo. The next day we went out to the same place, and I looked for dragon flies and just my luck, there were a few. Fortunatly again, these guys were very still dragon flies although they would get up and fly a bit when I got to close. My macro is ok, and these were small dragon flies so the idea came into my head if I use wide screen shot, and use the maximum resolution on my camera which for wide screen shots are 5.5 megabytes to get as much detail as possible, without blurring the photo due to my some what weak macro. It took a few attempts which is why I say this is one of my first dragon fly photos. At one point there were even three dragon flies ontop each other, but it was too hard to capture, and would turn out blurry because they were moving too fast. But at one point I got very lcuky which was this photo. I was exited and once I got home, I cropped it a bit, sharpened it a little, and slightly lightened it. I also resized it for the best viewing on treknature. Thanks Joey for telling me the name of the Dragon Fly! :-)

Nice macro Josh,
Wonderful detail and great DOF, very nice color to this particular dragon fly.
It's funny but I took a shot at one this afternoon also, but didn't like the end result.
Good job!! Interesting notes!
I think your notes tell it all and make up a bit for the slight OOF...which is about all I get if I can even catch up with on of these...I shall try to come back later and do workshop if I get a chance...but I shall let Joey have at it..he is the main guy isn't he..amazing kid...and so are you!
I want to share what I have been doing so Click Here:-)

This is a great macro of this Damselfly! I'm very happy that you finally got a shot of one :-D
Great focusing on the eyes and a decent DOF.
