La cannaiola misura circa 13-14 cm e presenta una colorazione marroncino, molto chiara, del piumaggio. Le zampe sono scure anche se di colore molto variabile dal bruno al grigio al carnicino. Durante il canto, la cannaiola tiene le penne sulla fronte solitamente sollevate e la coda non è abbassata.

La cannaiola comune è diffusa in tutta l'Europa, nell'Asia Minore e in Italia risulta essere di passo estivo. Per molti aspetti risulta molto simile al cannareccione, con l'eccezione che la cannaiola presenta delle dimensioni molto più piccole rispetto a questo ultimo.

Riguardo all'habitat, è un uccello meno esigente del cannareccione, infatti, si può trovare con molta facilità, in prossimità di qualsiasi corso d'acqua dolce, e la sua presenza non è legata a quella dei canneti caratteristica questa ultima fondamentale per il cannareccione.

Il nido della cannaiola non è sempre costruito tra i canneti, ma anche in altri tipi di vegetazione, purché risulti ben nascosto e perfettamente mimetizzato. E’ molto simile a quello del cannareccione e presenta delle dimensioni molto piccole, ma nonostante ciò è molto solido e soprattutto ben ancorato alle canne o alla vegetazione. Il nido è costruito sia dal maschio che dalla femmina, ma quest'ultima si occupa del rivestimento interno. La femmina vi depone 4 uova che saranno covate, per 11-12 giorni, da entrambi i genitori. La cannaiola alleva una sola nidiata all'anno che avviene in Giugno.

La cannaiola è un uccello prettamente insettivoro e quindi si ciba di piccoli insetti, come zanzare libellule, larve,ecc, che riesce a trovare lungo i corsi d'acqua in cui essa predilige vivere.

La cannaiola è la specie che il cuculo (Cuculus canorus) parassita più spesso, infatti, questo ultimo approfittando di un momento d'abbandono del nido vi depone un uovo, che la cannaiola non riconosce e cova con la stessa assiduità riservata alle proprie uova. Alla schiusa il giovane cuculo con uno sforzo incredibile, in relazione alle sue minute dimensioni, scaraventa fuori dal nido le uova della cannaiola assicurandosi così l’esclusive cure ed attenzioni dei genitori adottivi.


La fotografia
E’ stata scattata in un canneto nell’Oasi di Gaggio nel primo mattino con il sole relativamente basso per cui le tonalità dei colori sono calde. La vegetazione presente creava un certo disturbo, ma era anche la condizione necessaria per non essere visto e poter riprendere il canto territoriale che la cannaiola lanciava a 360° (vedi WORSHOP).

Hi Maurizio,

A great capture of this Reed Warbler posing on the reed. What a big mouth for a little bird. I love the opened beak, the face with the nice eye, the plummage, and the little claws holding onto the reed. Beautiful colors and setting.

Outstanding shot of this cute little Reed warbler calling out to frinds. Great blanacing act on that slender stem gives an impression about its weight. Very neat and sharp image with lovely colours and perfect lighting. I like the natural surrounding with illustrates the habitat. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
