Happy Fathers Day from us who are fathers to others who are fathers...48 countries celebrate Fathers Day on the 3rd Sunday in June. Many other countries celebrate on other days.

Here is something many will not know...The First Fathers Day was celebrated in Spokane Washington only a few miles from me...as per Wiki:

Another driving force behind the establishment of the integration of Father's Day was Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd, born in Creston, Washington. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, as a single parent reared his six children in Spokane, Washington. She was inspired by Anna Jarvis's efforts to establish Mother's Day. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father's birthday, she did not provide the organizers with enough time to make arrangements, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June. The first June Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, WA, at the Spokane YMCA.

Luke Russert was the son of NBC newsman Tim Russert who is known world wide. He was most famous in his own family by being a role model of a father. He passed away last week just after returning from Italy celebrating his son Lukes graduation from Boston College.

I think of being the father of 7 and also the only son of my own father. My father was a conservationalist and lover of nature. No matter the species, he knew it and taught me. Much I forgotten now and dad passed in 1995. What little I remember, I do in image and this image is of a bumble bee. It is propagating the species of flora as is the natural way in life, just as birth and death. to everything there is a season, as this bee in the image, Luke is now alone without a father. ....yet it goes about its day from flower to flower....May God give them all peace from the bee to the boy....

Hallo Bob
This is just GREAT. I just LOVE it. Although you have dedicated this to Luke Russert, I am going to be very presumptuous and claim it for myself as well. I am absolutely addicted to purple and as soon as my theme "My purple obsession" is updated this image will also go there. Unfortunately it is so full it is bursting out of its seams and another section must be added. Anyway this is an absolute feast to the eye. I just adore the colours and the clear details. Most impressive and a sheer delight to look at. Focus, sharpness and framing is great and presented in a most delightful manner. Thanks for sharing. I very much enjoyed this one. A sunny and colourful view on a coldish day here in South Africa.
Kind regards
Anna

Hi Bob,

Happy Father's Day to you and to all the dads on TN. Beautiful purple flowers - are they iris - what is the plural of iris anyway? The bee seems to be enjoying them too. Beautiful notes to go with a beautiful picture. My condolences to the Russert Family - my heart goes out to them all - I keep thinking of his father who must be heartbroken.

Jane

Namastay Bob,
A superb capture of this beautiful bumble bee and the beautiful flowers. Very good composition with a nice DOF. Superb details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

What interesting notes, Bob! (I should add, as always!)
These wonderful aquilegias (columbines) grow like weeds in my garden! They prevent me from needing to buy lots of bedding plants as they regularly seed themselves in ever increasing numbers. The bees are an integral part of them as they seem to be ever present.
Lovely details, perfectly composed.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bob,

Perfect exposure and focus with very sharp details on the beautiful colour of flowers and the bee!
the whole composition is with beautiful colour contrast!

Hello Bob,
I'm glad you found a little Bee as well and on beautiful blue flowers! Excellent focus and sharp details of both Bee and flowers. Being father to 7 children must have been hard work although I have a friend with 7 kids and she says it was easy as they looked after each other!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Amazing job!!! Perfect sharpness and composition. And of course I love the color purple. Your colors are rich and well saturated. The contrasts are perfect.

I like the blues of nature too, Bob and to see these aquilegia flowers attracting a fine bumblebee is a delight. The cental composition is excellent as there are points of interest all over this image, including the green BG with its fine colour contrast.
Thanks for perking the old sense of vision!
Ivan

Wow, your blue flowers are enough to sweep me off my feet, Bob!
Add an exotic Bee on top of them and the picture turns into a masterpiece.
Wish you too a Happy Father's Day!
Thanks and keep well.

Francine

Hi Bob,

Long time, no postings, but I'm back. Sadly not a father, so perhaps I should start driving for a national nature photographers' day, or perhaps just nature's day would be more appropriate in these days of fast and wasteful living?

Anyhow, I love the picture, with nice colours and forms and a wonderful bee to top it off.

Kind regards,

Mike

Hello Bob,
a great macro both of Bumble bee and purple flowers. sharp details, colors, lighting and composition great. thanks for sharing, best wishes
Ahmet

Very close up of this bee! I must say, I love your notes. The colors in this photo are bright - just like your notes. I love the way the colors meld together and if I'm not mistaken, that's a bumble bee? I have to laugh when I see them because they go here, there, up, down, and eventually reach their destination. Bumble bee is so fitting!
thanks for the kind dedication to all the fathers.

A poignant note, Bob...I am numbed by what you write sometimes, overwhelmed at other times!
Do you remember the number "Across the bridge, there's no more sorrow'?I think it was Jim reeves who sang it first..I love that number..
My Pastor says ultimate healing comes in being with Him...that is the healing of the soul...So be it!
'When I die, halleujah bye and bye, I'll fly away!'
Jim reeves for you again!

Hola Sr. Bob.
Tiene Ud. aqui una muy bella imagen. Los colores son hermosos y la abejita sobre la flor es un detalle exelente. Alta nitidez en la foto y fino fondo tambien.
Saludos Bob.

Hi Bob, superb composition with lovely busy bee and beautiful flowers, fantastic colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob,
Beautiful colors - Beautiful image.
I know Tim Russert from "Meet the Press" passed away suddenly a few days ago, did not know his son had died also.
UPDATE - Your wording fooled me..You said "Luke Russert was the son" past tense..He is still his son...even in death.
Well done mf,
Howard

Dear Bob,
I 'm in love with this color combination here.
And HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to you too Bob...I know from many a notes you wrote in here, how fondly you cherish the times spent with your children.
This is an amazing capture...with excellent clarity and sharpness. the flowers are so pretty and every pixel here oozing out the rich pigment..the BG is fantastic in green. The way you got the compositon here where the flowers are seen tapering off diagonally works very well. The bee is as clean as it could come to be and shown busy in its own activity.
Thanks for sharing this beauty
Cheers

Hi Bob

I'm a bit late for the father's day, but i hope i'm not too late to congratulate you on this gorgeous macro!
Very good shot, with spot-on focus on the big Bumble Bee, presented here with excellent sharpness.
Also, the colors in this shot are simply outstanding! I really like the flowers and the BG, too, all contrasting or complementing the bee.
Very good POV and exposure settings, too.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Bob,

Excellent composition. Beautiful sharp picture of this bumble bee visiting a wonderful purple flower. Great vivid colours.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hi Bob,

A nice close-up image of the bee getting the pollen from the flower. The point of view is showing the details, the colors of the insect and of the flower. The light brings out the beauty of the colors. The subject is nicely frame. Have a nice day.
