Dear friends,
I have seen so many dragonfly posts from Mr.Ram Thakur in TN. So much so that anytime I see a dragonfly it is he whom I remember…And on a bright sunny morning looking at this one, the situation was no different.

This Scarlet Lady in Sunshine is for you Sir, for the energy that you bring in, for the wonderful photographer that you are and for above all the inspiring fellow TNer that you have come to be ….

The Scarlet Skimmer or Crimson Darter (Crocothemis servilia) is a species of dragonfly of the family Libellulidae, native to east and southeast Asia. While the male is a beautiful red the female as you see is less colourful.

Sir, Hope you like this :)
Seeking Sunshine
A recent study suggests that there may really be a genetic impulse in human beings to seek the sun, though there's plenty of evidence that excess exposure to sunlight can be quite dangerous. In the study, published in the March 9 issue of Cell, Dr. David E. Fisher, director of the melanoma program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, reported that the same biochemical process that leads to skin tanning also raises levels of a natural opiate, the "feel good" chemical, beta-endorphin. That is about seeking sun to feel good, how about seeking sun because you are cold-blooded.?

Much like saying – “Everyone has a place in the sun” : )

Adult Dragonflies are "cold-blooded" creatures - cold-blooded in that they are not able to control their body heat in the same way human beings do. Alternately they are called “solar-powered” creatures - meaning they need to reach a certain temperature before they can fly.

If it is cool, they seek sunlight to help warm them. If it is too hot, they may point their tail toward the sun (called obelisking ) to reduce the sunlight hitting their bodies and if it gets too hot, they retreat to the shade and perch until the temperature drops to a more suitable level for their activities. They will perch on just about anything and often perch on concrete or stone walls, bridge railings, etc., especially in cool weather. The heat absorbed by the concrete lasts for quite a while (even after sundown). If the weather is cool they may be perching there to absorb some of the warmth. If they are perching underneath (in the shade), the drangonfly may be using it as a cool spot to get out of the heat.

Thanks for looking in:)

Hello Silpa,
A very apt tribute to our TN friend Ram with this fine capture of a female Scarlet Skimmer I would say.
Lovely POV as she rests among the flowers taken with good sharpness throughout.
You mention the sun in your note: this dragonfly has raised her abdomen to avoid getting too much solar radiation!
TFS this beauty,
Best wishes, Ivan

Hola Iris. Your name in Spanish.
Fino macro de este bella Libelula. Exelente nitidez y colorido. La pose es tambien muy bella sobre la flor.

Hallo Silpa
Wow! A most enjoyable sight. The rich golden colour of the dragonfly is stunning. Good focus and sharp details. The details of this photo are of high quality and really outstanding and the photo is jam packed with awesome detail and features. It is actually difficult to describe the beauty of this whole image. The arrangement of colours is breathtaking. Perfectly framed and pleasing to the eye. Congratulations. It was lovely to look at. Enjoy your day.
Kind regards
ps. It seems as if Ram has missed out on this dedication as well as another one made to him two days prior to this one.

Hi Silpa, what a splendid and perfect macro with wonderful colours. Amazing detailed shot and great composition. Also a great dedication to Sir Ram. TFS. Cheers,

Hello Silpa, this is a very bright shot. The title is a good match. Colour throughout the shot is very good, with an interesting pose seen by your dragonfly. You've made good use of the your depth of field to give us very good clarity of this insect and the flower, while muting down the background.

Thanks, John

Wow what a beautiful dragonfly captured on a stunning flower. Great POV and nicely composed. Wonderful vibrant colour

Hello Silpa,
I apologise for my late response to this wonderful picture of a Female Scarlet Skimmer you dedicated to me.
In fact, I am thankful to AC (Dyker) for reminding me that you had dedicated a lovely dragonfly image to me.
However, my laxity was totally unintentional.
I feel greatly honoured by your dedication.
I am not a dragonfly specialist; it so happens that our garden seems to be a favourite place for dragonflies, especially of the Skimmer genus!

The frontal POV in your picture has resulted into a crisp and colourful image that shows the entire subject in perfect detail.
I spotted the red male in the garden last Sunday and took many pictures of it because it was in a cooperative mood. I will post one for you soon.
I must also mention here that the quality of your work has reached a new high.
So well done and keep it going!

Hi Irishues.
I like wonderful colourful shot of a nice scene. Pictures model (dragonfly), flower on a FG, impressive surroundings are great. DOF is selected excellently too. Details of the main subject are superb and busy and a bit blurred BG is looked very well too. Framing and composition of the image are spot on. My best wishes and TFS.
