[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The real Tasmanian Devil (sarcophilus harrisii) looks much different to the Warner Bros cartoon character.
Real Tasmanian Devils weigh around 8-9kg, making them the largest living carnivorous marsupial. They do not, however, rotate sideways like a tornado and chew through trees and rocks.
Tasmanian Devils live in dry bush and scrub, feeding on dead sheep and wallabies, and sometimes take poultry from farms. Adults have a range rather than a set territory, and have been known to roam up to 16km to feed. Several dens are shared by TDs in the same range.
The TD is only found in Tasmania, disappearing from the Australian mainland around 500 years ago.
This animal was photographed at the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary, which is devoted to preserving and displaying Australian animals in natural surroundings. |

I don't think we've see this guy on TN before. I really like the POV you captured here, nice and low. Its a bit noisy in the background, but the facial details are great, capturing the essence of this beast. Well done.

Good capture of this wild animal Peter. I saw some at at Currumbin once, but they were quite shy. So this is good to see them up close. Good details, thank you.
