[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Paul was quite right concerning his critique yesterday.
about the branch in the foreground blurring across the ear.
After all it is woodland savanna and bushveld. It was an issue... often there was some kind of branch somewhere between the lens and the subject. You might think the tele would get rid of it. Often not so...
That's why I posted a slightly different one without the blurring issue. Furthermore I bended the curve not too much, trying to achieve more natural colors.
Take into account the image has been taken under a high sun. As a consequence the light is on top of the animal and its underpart, the big belly is in the shadows. A good tool in Photoshop is the Shadow/Highlight to enhance the former. The message is however not to exaggerate to avoid strange colors as well as to work noiseless.
Your opinion is very welcome...

More info about this animal and more images, you can find in Kruger National Park travelogue.

Thank you...

Hi Annick,
I like this one!
Very big and strong animal!
Your lens helps you to get great detail and the portrait is wonderful

Hi Annick.
Beautiful rhinoceros, to be visible that it likes running among sharp shrubs, very good ostro¶c and composition.
I greet Robert

Hi Annick.

These two photos show how a slightly different approach can bring out more in the subject. Thanks

Hi Annick

I think this one great. The POV is really good and emphsises the power of the big rhino. The grass is natural and doesn't distract from the beauty of the shot. Good PP on the light, looks very natural to my eye.
Great sharpness and composition.

Chris

Bonjour Annick,
Anne

Hi Annick,

Beautiful picture of the Rhino. Seems to match the color of the background. The grass in the front adds character to the picture. You seem to have taken the picture from a lower plane. Gives an excellent POV.

Cheers, Murali

You did a very good job with shadow/highlight to bring out detail in the underbelly without overdoing it. Nicely done.

Hello Annick
I was sure you didnt have just the one picture!!..This one is absolutley spot on in all aspects.
Its interesting you note that although the 400mm is indeed a fine Tele it still cant look through dense undergrowth..I have many pictures of birds where there is a branch that has strayed into the field of vision and thought thats a great capture only to be dissapointed on closer inspection later.
Very interesting note also as to how you made slight adjustments to the image later.
Best Regards
Paul
