[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Malabar grey hornbill (Ocyceros griseus) from Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve in south India. The species is endemic to the hill forests and associated plains of the Western Ghats ecoregion.

This individual was feasting on the abundance of "winged-termites" that were endlessly emerging from the moist ground. It was quite a sight watching these rather large birds, acrobatically plucking these insects in mid-air (unfortunately too quick for my photographic abilities!). The abundance of these insects is short-lived and sporadic, often coinciding with the onset of seasonal rains. They are evidently a much appreciated source of food for several species of insectivorous birds, often in mixed hunting parties, and many other animal groups (like bears, lizards, frogs and snakes).

Hello Ravi,
Nice to see this fine capture of a Grey Hornbill in a fine pose in its natural habitat. I have seen this species in Goa but have failed to photograph it, which makes seeing this an extra bonus.

Hi Ravi,
Nice shot of your hornbill.
I like the POV and color, and the bird has an interesting pose..
Now wouldn't that be the shot..A closeup of the large hornbill in mid-air pursuit of a termite! :)
Well done,
Howard

Hi Ravi,
This is an awesome shot, my friend!I love the very different OOF BG, compared with the very sharp FG and subject!
very well done!
Goldy

I must go to this park someday...... it is filled with wonderful sights!

Dear Ravi
Interesting, well camouflaged Hornbill.
I add your image to my theme "animals feeding, part 2.it is quite difficult to see the details, they are not sharp enough, which is aggravated by the camouflage colours.
The natural colors enhance the photo.

Thanks for sharing

Warm greetings from South Africa,
Ingrid
