Papilio polytes.
Common name: Common Mormon.
Papilio polytes is a common species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed across Asia. This butterfly is known for the mimicry displayed by the numerous forms of its females.
The male has one morph only. It is a dark-coloured swallow-tailed butterfly. The upper forewing has a series of white spots decreasing in size towards the apex. The upper hindwing has a complete discal band of elongated white spots. It may or may not have marginal red crescents. The males are smaller in size than the females. It is a restless insect, zig-zagging fast and straight close to the ground, settling down only when it halts to feed.
The female of the Common Mormon is polymorphic. In South Asia, it has three forms or morphs. These are as follows.
Form cyrus: This form is similar to the male, differing in that it always has strongly marked red crescents. It is the least common of the three forms.
Form stichius: This female form of the Common Mormon mimics the Common Rose very closely.
Form romulus: This female form mimics the Crimson Rose and is common over its range.
The specimen here is of the form stichius.

I could capture the male as well as the female specimen of this species on wings in the same frame. Male chasing the female vigorously.

Hello Nirmal,
A fine capture of a couple of Common Mormons, one in flight. The composition and POV are great and the sharpness against an OOF natural BG very good. This shot deserves more attention and is a fine tribute to our butterfly specialist and expert photographer, Peter Stoeckl.
TFS this beauty,

Hello Nirmal,
You show also butterflies and not just one! Amazing picture, even one in flight. Plaesant composition. Nice dedication to our friend Peter Stoeckl, who seems not to have seen it. He will do it later, I'm sure

Dear Nirmal,
sorry for responding so late to this image so very friendly dedicated to me, what a pleasure and an honour! Been away from my desk at that time on a trip into the mountains with no access to computers, and just returned a few days ago, now starting to see some of my friends' contributions that I have missed.
You managed to take an in-flight capture with stunning details, the approaching male as well as the wing clapping female are clearly well frozen in motion.
A charming, well composed, cheerfully colourful picture, coming with excellent notes.
Thank you for the honour of receiving it from you!
With all my best wishes to you,
