[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi all!

Thanks to Dieter and Anne (meyerd; anel) I have discovered the macro photography and the interest in taking pictures of insects. It changes from my landscapes and abstract pictures. Moreover, I still can't use my right hand so I walk around in my garden with the camera attached on a monopod. That's how I begin to dive into the world of these beauties.

It's difficult for a beginner to identify insects. I don't have any books and spent a long time on internet to find this fly. I think it is a "Lucilia sericata" and can be found in Europe, Asia and North America. The green bottle fly (Lucilia sericata) is a common blowfly, slightly larger than a housefly, and has brilliant, metallic, blue-green or golden colouration with black markings. It has black bristle-like hair and three cross-grooves on the thorax. The wings are clear with light brown veins, and the legs and antennae are black. The Larvae of the fly are also used for Maggot Therapy.

Taken in RAW, imported to PS, level corrections, attenuation of the bright tones, sharpened, cropped and saved as TIFF and JPG.

Kind regards

Hello Markus,
I'm glad you've discovered macro photography too and this is a brilliant start! Excellent focus on the fly that stands out so nicely against the light green leaf. Lovely colours and very fine sharp details too.
TFS and best of luck, Ulla

Hi Markus. The camera and minolts lens has done well with this picture of the fly. Your sharp focusing has given fine detail and natural colours. with good use of the light on the wings and body. well done TFS.

Ciao Markus,
TFS. Maurizio

Discovery the mother of invention? Or vis versa..no matter...it is a film sharp image...almost not measured in megapixels. nice to do macro eh? I enjoy looking at them when done as well as this...not too close in but close enough for the details...unless one wants to be a scientist..:-) Very nice. Hope your health is well.

Lieber Markus,

Hello Markus,

If this is your first macro, it is wonderful.
The details are as sharp as a razor!
The green bottle's back is so shiny, it looks as if it has been polished with wax!
The brightly coloured, blurred leaves make a good b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Markus,

A fine shot of this fly - you are a natural for macros. Razor sharp details and wonderful colors. I love the irridescence of the body. The yellow flower is a perfect backdrop showing him off in all his glory.

Hello Markus,
A superb sharp macro of a green Bottle fly taken from a great POV and with superb technical qualities.
If you have just discovered macro photography this is an amazing start!
Thanks for sharing this goodie,

Hello Markus,
Great macro with sharp details and colour!
hope that your hand get well soon!
sincere regards

Excelente trabajo a mi entender.
Un abrazo: J. Ignasi.

Hi Markus.
What a clear colours and tremendous detail/sharpness of the fly. Amazing reproduction of all features of the insect. I like wonderful BG created by leaves, its colouration and composition of the image at whole. I welcome you in macrocosm and macro shooting and I hope we'll see many your perfect macro shots. Hi Markus,
I was a bit surprised to see a insect photo from you. It looks like Dieter and Anne gave you a new virus. It also seem that you mastered the skills immediately the sharpness and composition are wonderful. Aperture wise the fly is in the perfect zone. I would however feel that a smalles aperture would allow more detail in the plant. But that is probably a personal like and does not degrade this photo at all.

Lieber Markus,

Hi Markus,
an excellent sharpness that render this fly into a glowing diamond. the hairy bodu and silver wings are really outstanding. The two eyes are soft and lovely. so that goes the beauty of a captured fly by you resting on a green bluury background of a leaf.
Excellent presentation and Merry Xmas.
