[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo during the middle of the afternoon. To offset the bright lighting, I underexposed the shot, praying that I would get a decent outcome, especially with the white on this bird.

I got lucky (definitely not skill!), and walked away happy with this capture.

This was taken while camping. I converted from RAW to Jpeg in order to post.

I liked his pose as he reminded me of myself staring at nothing, perhaps just musing over the day's events or even over his life. Regardless, there seemed something special about him and wanting to preserve my own thoughts/feelings, I took the photo. I added a bit of contrast and unsharp, but other than that, this is as it was when I shot him. Oh, I did do a crop. Nothing major though...just wanted to enjoy this fellow, and also, wanted to hang it on my wall.

By the way, I entered the fair this year for the first time - let's hope I do okay...I entered my nestling cedar waxwings.
Kathy :-)

Another beauty Kathy,
Love the composition with the diagonal branch. Nice blurred background with the dark splotches which gives a soft textured look.
If I hadn't seen your title I would have thought this was an Eastern Kingbird. Wonderful Image!! Nice job!!
Ron

This is an Eastern Kingbird, not a Cliff Swallow. Nice shot.

hello Kathy,

what a beautiful photo! It looks very poetic - the bird is in deep thought or meditation. I also like the way you give the bird some room (on the right of the photo) to think... it reminds me the "leaving some white space" technique in traditional Chinese paintings as well as the famous quote "Less is More" by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

TFS. have a nice day!!

chrs,

Super use of the sun angle Kathy. Clear and crisp. You should go camping more often. Pretty soon it will start turning cooler!
Bob

This bird looks so distinguished looking. Captured very well.
