[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
First breakfast outdoors :). Our fledglings escaped the confines of the box this morning before I got up after I spent *5 hours* inside my hide yesterday waiting for that critical moment when they leave the box. Not daft are they? *grin*.
It was easy to tell they had left the nest this morning. Yesterday the parents were back and forth all morning trying to tempt them out. It is a thrilling thing to be able to see it first hand, I've never seen it myself before - the adults taking food to the box entrance and waving it temptingly before the chicks to entice them out. The parents also perched in the area of the box and called and called and called. Yesterday they got no joy but evidently it worked today.
I don't know how many fledglings there are, I've only seen this one so far but the parents are all over the place trying to track them down. I think they are beginning to wish they'd left them in the nestbox - at least they'd know where they were!
It was a wonderful thing for me to see this little fledgling and know that he was not even a full day out of the nestbox. You can tell he is newly out of the nest by his gape and downy feathers. I have more images but I liked this one even though its not the best POV for Mum (or Dad) because of the way the chick is saying 'feed me!'

Camera Settings: Drizzle yesterday and very overcast today so not the most brilliant light in the world. ISO 1600, f7.1 and 1/160 sec. I wasn't sure I'd get away with that speed but thought I'd give it a go in the spirit of experimentation. Wings are blurry but otherwise it seems ok.

PP: Cropped, gaussian blur on the BG cos of the ISO noise, sharpening, levels and highlight/shadow on the birds to bring them out from the BG.

BTW PDP if you see this - will post another image of the hoverfly after another blue tit image :)

I can well understand why this shot appealed to you, it does to me, too. The blurry wings of the youngster have probably to do with the fact that they often shake in order to gain and hold the attention of the parent feeding.
Good POV and excellently done in difficult conditions overall.

What a chance you had to catch such a decisive moment and made a good shot out of it with good DOF and all.
Love this wide opened beak and I think I can feel the tension in his little legs, holding on tight on the branch so not to fall.. Great job.
