Friends, I found this curious looking Beetle hiding under the broad leaf of an Indian garden tree that bears white frgarant flowers. It was dark there so I had to use fill flash for this capture.
Thanks to Ivan (Argus), I have now a confirmed ID of this insect which goes by the name of Soft-winged Flower Beetle.

Here is a note on it borrowed from bugguide.net:

Classification

Kingdom Animalia (Animals)
Phylum Arthropoda (Arthropods)
Class Insecta (Insects)
Order Coleoptera (Beetles)
Suborder Polyphaga (Water, Rove, Scarab, Longhorn, Leaf and Snout Beetles)
Superfamily Cleroidea (Bark-gnawing, Checkered and Soft-winged Flower Beetles)
Family Melyridae (Soft-winged Flower Beetles)
Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Includes Malachiidae and Dasytidae, according to American Beetles, Vol. 2 (1)

Fauna Europaea treats Malachiidae and Dasytidae as valid families, distinct from Melyridae

Numbers

501 species in 52 genera in North America listed at nearctica.com

Size

body length 2-7 mm

Identification

Adult: body may have a soft appearance from the numerous erect hairs; front coxae prominent; antennae insert in front of the head above the mandibles; many species have a fleshy lobe between the tarsal claws, and some have orange eversible sacs along the sides of the abdomen that are sometimes visible

Range

Most of United States and southern Canada (two species reach Northwest Territories but none are found in Yukon or Alaska)

Habitat

Adults are commonly found on flowers of herbaceous plants
Larvae occur in various habitats but most commonly in soil, leaf litter, or under bark

Food

Chiefly insects but food preferences vary within the family

Adults evidently feed on flower-visiting insects as well as pollen

larvae are primarily predators of other insects.

Your macros are becoming very professional Ram!
The technical standard of this image is top class, as are the POV, lighting and composition.
Not only that, your entomogical skills in identifying this group of beetles are spot on. You're right about this being a Soft-winged Flower Beetle: they are supposed to have 11 segments on the antennae and this specimen show 11, thanks to the sharpness and POV.
A superb contribution and thanks for sharing it.
Thanks also for your kind words on my second TN anniversary.
All the best,
Ivan

Hi, Ram,

wow, an excellent capture of a beautiful flower beetle. the composition and the colours are very attractive! thanks for sharing.

chrs,
Man Yee

Hi Mr. Ram,
A nice capture of this beetle. Most probably some type of blister beetle (baby) as per its face appearance and the antenna. Yes it might be the soft winged flower beetle but as far as I know about flower beetles they are very small. Anyway I like the composition here with sharp details and also the well controlled flash work which is not easy. Regarding proper ID let is leave this to some experts here. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Sincerely
HP

Kewl Ram...Super clarity both in the insect and it's perch of green. It is a mixture of feeling for me this morning..not to know whether it looks creepy crawly or almost in some odd way a cuddly kind of playful insect. Great descriptive notes. Nikon Craftsman!

Hi Ram!

What a pleasure to look at this picture! It is not only perfect as far as the technical aspects are concerned (lighting, sharpness, colour management), it's also nicely composed and I especially like the repetition of the line formed by the leaf in the background. I can't help you with the ID, but would like to thank you for such a beautiful posting.

Kind regards

Markus

Dear Ram Sir,
I appreciate what Ivan has mentioned about your entomolgical skills. You are an honest naturalist par excellence. After viewing big big beetles from your webpages, this fellow looks gentle & toddler as compared to the previous ones. Very sharp macro with superb details. TFS.
