Each morning, when we could, after dropping kids off at preschool, we went to the local grocery and bought coffee for Jane, orange juice for me and one freshly made doughnut each. then we drove 1 half mile to the Edge of Ocean Drive, a 120 acre empty plot of land which was high up on the ocean bluffs, full of California Poppy's and Sea Oats...there we parked the car and watched the waves come in.

Here I am looking WSW towards Hawaii a loooong way over water. I am about 125 feet above the rocks to which the waves come crashing ashore. About this time of day the tide is now coming back in after its morning low. I have seen cars pulled up from the drop below. One was driven by a young man who was unhappy with the way his life was going. His body was drawn out after the car hit the rocks and he was never found. He was not alone in death here..In my 20 plus years on the coast this location was the death for 2 dozen people, most those tourists who thought climbing rocks was fun and learned later that the power of the ocean was nothing to fool with. It's beauty though could be seen from this safe location about 10 feet from the edge.

The sun is still rising in this photo and the gull happened by at the right time..I frequently got out of the car to feel the wind on my face and when surf was high I could feel the mist coming in from the tops of the huge waves. All of these memories allowed me and now remind that while I loved the wilderness of E Washington, I also loved the Mendocino Coast. In fact there is rarely a place in this world, in my time where I have not had affection for all of the natural things and beauty around me.

Hello Bob
I envy you for wonderful time that you have. But I am young and I still need to work to get to your age and time. In my retired expectations, I will continue to admire another’s work. And I will to dream to a calm and warm life, exactly like your photo. TFS, Oana

hello bob,

i am back from the two days business trip till sunday, monday i will be off to a 6 days business trip again, till then i want to enjoy being here and looking at this post certainly makes me happy, reading the notes makes me feel like doing it, sipping juice enjoying the beauty of nature and that too with my better half, the mood has been presented so well with natural shades, fine pov and a balanced composition,

you have very correctly mentioned about the mishaps as people take it lightly and the carelessness an cost even life.

well done once again and this time the notes made me feel like sitting on the beach and feeling the air touching my face and the roar of the ocean,

tfs & regards

Hi Bob,
another beauty from all that time ago. The elements in it, Bird, Early pinkish light, Ocean and general topography make this feel a little primeval to me...great place to have a doughnut too! Nicely framed and exposed.

Hi, Bob,

great seaside! very beautiful composition and colours - and I like the seabird there : ) thanks for sharing.

There is an attractive rosiness about this scanned slide Bob.
I don't just mean the colour of the sunrise on the clouds, but the spray mist over the sea.
That is sharply in contrast with the FG, the sharp silhouettes of the rocks and the foamy sea coming from the breakers.
Looks like the Mendocine Coast is, or at any rate was, a photographer's paradise.

Hi Bob!

The downright duality of this picture - in combination with the remarkable and emotional notes - makes this picture an outstanding one. It is, on one hand, romantic and peaceful, on the other hand wild and stormy. A complex atmosphere and expression that asks the spectator to spent the necessary time for a deep contemplation.

Kind regards

Hi Bob,

Another beautiful and nostalgic seascape. I have only seen a sky this shade of pink in pictures. So perfect with the seagull flying through the sky. The water, waves and rocks give the scene a sense of drama.

Bonjour M. Shannon, étant une amoureuse de l'océan, j'adore cette photo et imagine très bien le vent et l'embrun sur le visage. Merci, c'est très beau et ces souvenirs sont aussi touchants qu'avant. Bye bye!

I will not bore you with platitudes Bob..
The others here have surpassed any attempt I might make to quantify.. Photographically speaking of course :)
I will simply say I like what I see, and the story behind the lens..

Namastay Bob,
Another beautifully composed seascape from your archives. Very well composed with lovely colors. Thanks a lot for sharing.

hello Bob,
There is again something so nostalgic in your picture. And at first I didn't realise that this shot had been taken 30 years ago! Amazing atmosphere proper to this special moment in the day, moment we unfortunately almost always miss. It's paradise on earth! Very mystical and touching picture
Best regards

Hello Bob, Lovely landscape and excellent shot. Wonderful time and superb view. Lovely composition. Ganesh

Hi Bob,

The sunrise is giving nice colors to the sky, to the sea and a set of shadows to the rocks. The presence of the bird is adding another type of life to the scenery. The point of view takes us toward the horizon which is giving depth to the picture. The capture of the waves movement is an asset to the composition. have a nice day.

Hello Bob. I like this beautifully composed image. Very nice dreamy perspective with the bird adds interest to the shot. Pleasant view with nice cloud in the sky. I like it and keep sharing Bob. Best regards. Jusni
