Actually, I had planned to upload a butterfly from Karaman. When I checked my archive, I remember this shot. Butterfly will be posted in future days.
July 29th, we (with Ferhat) visited to a cave near Görmeli (formerly Üçbölük) Village (Karaman Prov.: Ermenek). I had found first record of the bat Plecotus kolombatovici Dulic, 1980 [as P. teneriffae in some references] (photo. 1, 2) (CHIROPTERA: VESPERTILIONIDAE) in 1999 (Juste et al., 2004). We couldnt find the cave (Dipsiz İn in Turkish) in first experiment, since near dusk and construction of big hydro-electric santral. At the evening, we went to the village and a villager came with us and showed it after searching of one hour.
The long eared bats were absent and we found Hypsugo savii (Bonaparte, 1837) of same family.
However, I saw an adult Sitta neumayer Michahelles, 1830 (PASSERIFORMES: SITTIDAE), roosting on wall of the cave near midnight and several minutes later, I also found the scorpion of today's post. It belonged to Iurus asiaticus Birula, 1903 - Akdeniz Akrebi [TR] (SCORPIONES: IURIDAE) in one of the last parts of the cave on bat droppings. It took fighting position against to me.
I took this photograph from several centimetres (c. 10 cm) by a compact camera of SONY Cyber-shot under light of a torch.
The species ranges in Turkish Akdeniz [Mediterranean] Region and some island of Southern Ege [Aegean] Sea. Similar species, I. dufoureius (Brullé, 1832) occurs in Southern Greece and Crete Island. Only deveral people died after its biting, as I know from literature.
This is second photograph of this species on TN. The first one (click photo. 1) was posted by Bayram Göçmen and another shot is presented as Workshop by me.

Dedication for my dear friend Bayram (boreocypriensis) who most of you know him very well from TN.

Merhaba Ahmet,
A superb close portrait of a Scorpion (I. asiaticus) in association with the bat cave habitat. I guess it must be at the top of the food chain in this habitat, where arthropods feed on the bat droppings.
Excellent technical qulities and composition and a fine tribute to Bayram, who contributes so much to this site.
Best wishes,
Selamlar,
Ivan

Ahmedim selamlar, sığ bir saha derinliği ile nefis bir kuyruklu karesi çekmişsin. Detaylar nefis. Eline sağlık.

Merhaba Ahmet!
I will start from note this time - it is really interesting and nice for reading, I can feel like watching every single part of the expedition! Good to know that so many interesting discoveries were done by you in this cave. I must say that in one cave in Bulgaria I had oportunity to observe some 3-4 species and a lot of invertebrates living next to these mammals. There were some Tenebrionidae beetles (Blaps spp.) eating bat's guano, some fresh water and blind Amphipoda eating also the some foo, and larvae of Chiroptera which hunted for amphipods! There were also spiders and other arachnids. Wonderful example of cave ecosystem :)
But I never saw a scorpio in a cave! I believe that it was hunting for some larvae of beetles (I suppose some Tenebrionidae species).
So as you can see this presentation is very interesting for me. Both as showing interesting species and has very interesting note :)
TFS and I am waiting for next presentation from you!
Greetings from Lodz,
Radomir

Nice shot. The focus is not that sharp, but the posture is excellent.

Hi Ahmet

Great shot and excellent pose of this ferocious-looking creature. I have only ever seen one - in the Sahara in Sudan - and our guide screamed a lot and killed it!

Gamze:)

Hi Ahmet,
A great shot of this Scorpion, especially since it was taken with torch light.
I'm guessing it was an LED light as it has a daylight blue hue as opposed to a yellow light.
Great all over sharpness and detail.
Nice work.
Cheers
Steve

Salam Ahmet. This scorpion is looking mean and ready to attack. I like the position of the body with good lighting and framing. Not comfortable to be near one and thanks for sharing this image. Well done and happy fasting during the month of Ramadhan. Best regards. Jusni
