Good Morning Everyone,

Well, the holiday is over but what a great time we had, visiting our dear family in France. I can honestly say, it was a holiday to remember.

I was just amazed at the quantity of birds and insects compared with what I would see at home on a regular basis.

The insect I have posted today was very definitely a first for me! I have never seen anything like it before and you can imagine my excitement when I saw it fluttering across the meadow! It is, of course, for butterfliy enthusiasts, a Jersey Tiger.

Jersey Tiger (Euplgia Quadripunctaria)

Distribution - Central and Southern Europe, including Southern England, rarely above 1,000 m; on warm, dry slopes, fallow land, parks and gardens.
Flight period - early July to early September, one brood.
Behaviour - active by day, feeds on flower nectar, particularly the thistle. Lays eggs in small batches on the edges of leaves which are the caterpillar's food plants.

Many thanks for your visit.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph. :-)

Hello Bev,
Glad to read that you had a good holiday in Brittany.
You did well to capture this Jersey Tiger with its wings spread out to show the striking hindwings: we usually see them with the hindwings hidden.
You also did right to maximise the DOF to achieve almost total sharpness from this POV against a pleasing OOF BG as it takes nectar from these ragwort flowers.
TFS this beauty,
Best wishes,

Hi Beverley.
Many thanks for nice words of comments.
I have never seen this species too. Thanks for opportunity to meet it. Not crisp sharp image but I like it a lot. POV and composition are blameless, lights and colours are bright and rich. DOF is selected precisely. Level of blurriness of the BG is excellent. My compliments and all the best.

Hi Bev,
I have heard about Bengal and Siberian Tigers but not this Jersey on. Looks quite tame to me. Very good macro capture with good POV, DOF and composition, sharp details and beautiful colours.
