On a flower* clock of 10 hours, the Marmelade fly (Episyrphus balteatus) and the tinny black fly (?) indicate 7:07. This is the time for dreaming in the sun, loving the beauty of our fragile world.

The Episyrphus balteatus is a Diptera of the Syrphidae family. It is a relatively small hoverfly (9-12mm) of the Syrphidae family, widespread throughout all continents. Like most other hoverflies it mimics a much more dangerous insect, the solitary wasp, though it is a quite harmless species. The upper side of the abdomen is patterned with orange and black bands. Two further identification characters are the presence of secondary black bands on the 3rd and 4th dorsal plates and of faint greyish longitudinal stripes on the thorax. The larva is terrestrial and feeds on aphids. (Wikipedia)

(Wikipedia)

Hello Catherine,
Superb composition with two insects of different species sitting face to face on this lovely delicate flower. Sharpness in the middle of the flower is a bit weak. Perhaps you could have tried a narrower aperture. Nevertheless, an excellent picture. TFS.

Haha, lovely image and story Catherine! Both insects and flower are very well taken, sharp and colorfull. This black insect is rather some kind of small wasp. It had to be tiny! Great idea for post.
