Blow Fly Bouquet

I found the Blow Fly on this Dublin Bay rose growing at home. The rose is such a vibrant red and even the Blow Fly looks quite attractive in colour too. . .

Common Name: Blow fly
Scientific Name: Calliphora sp.
Order: Diptera

Several species of flies can be found in and around homes during the summer months. These medium-sized flies are attracted to human and animal waste and decaying garbage. Because of these habits, they are capable of transmitting filth-related diseases such as diarrhoea and dysentery.

All flies belong to the insect order Diptera, meaning "two-winged." Most other adult insects have four wings.

Flies have four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult.

Eggs are laid in a variety of decaying organic material, and hatch into pale, legless maggots. When development is complete, the maggots wander from the larval development site in search of a dry place to pupate.

The pupa is the immobile stage characterized by a hard, dark brown "shell."

The adult flies may emerge in as little as seven to fourteen days.

And thatís all I want to know about flies!!!

Hi Janice,

Very good detail on the fly and the rose. Nice colours and composition. I will still definitely prefer the rose though.

Regards

Robin

Hi Janice,
A lovely capture of this beautiful blow fly. A nice composition with beautiful red BG. Very good details and a nice POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hellow Janice,

A good overhead view of this fly clinging to the edge of a pretty rose petal.
Even if you don't like flies, you have to admit that their irridescent coats are very attractive. He must have some sense, to choose a rose on which to spend his time!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Reminds me of "Annie"...would she like velvet or lace or both...or satin that's it...you have given about as much stature to the fly as any one person could do..Now if you only had a product to hawk with it...it would make a standout advert! It has that classic Tiffanys's look to it...or Diamonds by Taylor you know what I mean...perhaps a fine scotch whiskey...crazy how many things can come to mind from this image..beauty and the beast...oh...I'll go on forever!
Bob

Hello Janice,
I expect this fly fancied the scent of this beautiful red rose! You've zoomed in very nicely on the fly showing the fine metallic colours and details very clearly. The rose looks nice and velvety, soft to land on I suppose! ;-)
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

What a plush way of presenting a Green Bottle,
Janice!
You've placed this fly on the red carpet, so to speak and not only show him from a fine POV with excellent sharpness but raised his status!
TFS this unsual image,

Hello Janice!

Very arty image with fly as main subject. Or maybe Red Sea is main subject here? Anyway - very good saturated reds and rather tired shinning fly. Nice combination my friend! I can only add that word 'pupa' in Polish children language means a** :-)

Hello Janice,
It's an unusual image - the red is so intense that it almost makes me cry :-) Very nice composition with two contrasting colours. Some noise visible, so using NeatImage or something similar would help. Otherwise an appealing presentation.
Best greetings & TFS!
Michal
