Hello my Friends!
Today short break from Greek pictures, but still a continuation of herpetofauna pictures, and a small "trip" from the Balkans to the Central Poland! :>

Almost one year ago I presented here in TN gallery a very young specimen of Natrix natrix persa a subspecies of Grass Snake (in Polish: zaskroniec rybolow) known mainly from SE Europe. Today much common and widely distributed another subspecies of this snake - Natrix natrix natrix. As you can see (please compare with link) these two young specimens are rather different coloured, and really this is the most characteristic difference between both taxa. Of course in adults colours are not so intensive, but differences are still visible.

These two subspecies mentioned above are not the only ones, as in Europe 2 additional can be found:
-ssp. astreptophora (Seoane, 1884) - known from Portugal
- ssp. cetti Gené, 1838 - known from Corse

Natrix natrix is one of three species of this genus from from Europe. Two additional are:
Natrix tesselata and Natrix maura. Like other members of this genus also this one is known as hunting on frogs, toads or fish. It is non-venomous snake species protected by Polish law :>

According to Polish fauna of snakes and vipers, there are only 3 more species: Vipera berus, Coronella austriaca and Elaphe longissima.
And here you can find full list of reptiles of Poland :>

The picture was taken near Budy Grabskie village, in the Rawka River Nature Reserve, Bolimow Ladscape Park. And this is one of photos taken during my... entomological field studies :>
Yes, yes, I know - this is not an insect, but I hope you will like it ;>

Hi Radomir.
I always am in admiration with details and sharpness of your shots. Razor sharpness< great rich colours despite the dark key of the shot execution/,. POV and composition are amazing. I also do not know which images (leaves or snake) are the best. Bravo.

Hi Radek

A very nice shot of this cute, young Natrix.
This year i wasn't able to do a lot of herping, but i sure hope that next year i'll catch-up, once i begin my PhD :)

I really like this shot and this presentation because it shows everybody that snakes can be cute, nice and absolutely non-threatening.
Technically, i really like the sharpness, the natural contrast and the textures on the snake. Good flash work and nice compo, too.

Bravo and TFS

PS: I hope you'll be able to upload those photos i've sent you on the PES gallery, soon. As i said before, i hope that one day, we'll have all the species from Europe photographed and posted here for all student to acces:)

Hello Radomir,
I guess you had to use flash here.
Very educational shot. Amazing length for a baby...
Beautiful animal. Well composed.

Bonjour Radomir,
What a cute little baby! I never would have thought that they might look so lovely. Excellent presentation, the little snake took the best shape for the fotographer!

Hello Radomir,
This species not poisonous as you marked, however they are mostly killed , at least here, by human wherever appear. Because humans afraid of all snakes. The genus Natrix actually has venom glands without channel and they cant inject. This genus is represented by three species in both Turkiye and Europe, but N. megalocephala presents here whereas N. maura occurs in Europe.
As for your capture, it is really very beautiful. Especially eyes contact, and timing wonderful. Focus, POV/OOF, colors also great. Nicely composed. Brownish leaves nicely compose BG. Thanks for sharing, best wishes
PS: Many thanks for your visiting and welcome wishes.

beautiful example of Natrix, captured in the wild, twisted into beautiful posing with watchful eyes..thanks for posting

best sERGIO
