One more from my archives and once again the same day and place my last two were taken from inside a woodland hide hand held. It was a dull day and at one time over 50 people were cramed inside to see the Bramlings, within a few days the birds were gone.

Brambling ( Fringilla montifringilla ) Length 14-15cm.
This is a very rare and occasional breeder in Scotland but it is common along the East coast of England.
It is a winter visitor to most parts of Britain and Ireland.
In its winter plummage it is very similar to the Chaffinch but always shows an orange-buff shoulder patch on its breast and flanks, a white rump is seen in flight.
Female and immature Birds have buffish grey face with characteristic dark parrallel lines down its nape.
The male has dark brown head which in breeding plumage becomes black.
Seen in flocks sometimes with Chaffinches.
it is especially fond of fallen beech mast.

Hello Nick,

This is an amazingly sharp photograph, detailing exactly the colors, texture and patterns of the plummage of this alert looking Brambling. Well done!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Nick,

This Brambling is beautiful. I doubt if I would be able to pick it out in a flock of Chaffinches. Amazingly sharp details and excellent colors. Pose, setting, background and composition are all wonderful.

Hello Nicholas,

what a good photo of the bird you have made. First of all I appreciate the attitude of the bird. You can feel the bird being attentive but not frightened. the light falling on the bird is very nice showing well the colors and pattern of the plumage. Blurry background fits well with the main subject and enhaces it's sharpness.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Nick.
Beautiful image, superb composition, lighting, colour and detail, excellent hand-holding.
They do look a little like the Chaffinch.

At our children s school we had a photographer who came every year to record fo mom and dads...and we bought into it even though I was a picture taker kind of guy...but you could have fit that genre..Your images are always so much ....hmm..trying to find the right words...but they fit into the same mode..not in a bad way but in a good way...always same exposures and such...this is how we learn to prefect certain arenas yes?

Hi Nick

Again a very nice shot from you!
I really like the beautiful natural light you've got here on this lady and the very nice shallow DOF you've used, to get that uniform and blurry BG.
The details are good and the colors are lovely.
I know how those hides can be...i've been to one of those with you :) It's indeed not the most comfortable place to shoot from especially when crowded, so credits to you for coming back with such a nice shot.

Bravo and TFS
