Wild tiercel (male) Peregrine Falcon (Falcon peregrinus anatum) transfers a prey bird from his beak to the waiting talons of his female falcon partner (I have monitored both of these Peregrines for 3 years)

Successful food transfers occur very, very fast. They take 3-5 seconds to complete. To photo ducument this spectacular behavior I spend hours waiting below their cliff side eyrie during brooding season. I have found that knowing your subjects behavior will give you the advantage of being in the right place at the right time to possibly capture shots like this.

I can't tell you how many times I have waited and waited and than because of a brief distraction I took my eyes off the bluffs, only to hear the Peregrines vocalizing to each other during their exchange but I missed the shot. This day I was totally focused and in sync with them. Luck was also on my side as I had good light and was able to swing the camera/lens up just in time to capture a four shot sequence.

Hi Will,

You have earned the name "Sharpeyes." What concentration and timing to manage this shot of the interaction between the Peregrine couple. Not only did you capture a great moment - you did it with such finesse. Wonderfully sharp details - I love the expression on the faces. Wonderful natural colors against the perfect blue sky. I do hope you will post the other three shots.

Hi Will,

Both your patients and persistence has paid off, what a stunning capture, excellent detail in both birds of prey, beautiful colours, perfect lighting, really well done, t.f.s,

Hi Will!

It's a beautiful and spectacular wildlife picture. What makes it outstanding is the fact that it doesn't only show a bird of pray flying in the blue sky, but it shows an action, a scene from the life and behaviour of these birds. Your accompanying notes explain very well why we don't often see pictures like this one. It's the compensation for your perseverance!

Kind regards

very very nice and impressive, TFS Ori
