This is the last one from my archives from late winter.
I have the female Redpoll this time. They do not have as much colour as the male but its still a cute little bird which i was pleased to see from the hide. This was taken hand held on a wet dull day.

Redpoll ( Carduelis flammea ) Length 13-15cm.
A small Finch with rather variable plumage.
Most Birds can be recognised by a yellowish conical bill, black bid and a red patch on their forecrown. The latter of which is absent in some Juvenile Birds.
Has streaked grey-brown upperparts and pale underparts, streaked on its flanks. In the breeding season the Male has a pinkish flush to its breast.
As a breeding species it occurs locally throughout much of England and Ireland.
In winter it is much more widespread.
Breeds in open woodland but winter flocks mostly in alder and birch often with Siskins.

Hello Nick,
Another treasure from your archives, this time a fine capture of a female Redpoll that is pretty sharp and taken from a fine POV in a simple but pleasing composition.
TFS this delight,

I have to chuckle a bit..when going through your archival, I am seeing that your tendency is to think not backwards but also in an unusual way already through fall, winter and into next spring...funny how subconscious thoughts work through the third eye...Very nice early on spring image Sir Nick!

Hi Nick
I have never try to photograph birds. Your photos are great. Maybe I will try this subject ;-)

Another great image and I like this species very much. Beautiful colors, good sharpness, perfect, homogenopus background I like it very much

Hi Nick,

You seem to have a lot of wet dull days but I would never guess this was taken on one of them. I love the pose of this Redpoll on the branch. She is lovely with that nice red patch on her head. Beautiful colors and fine details against a superb background.

Hi Nick,

This female Redpoll, and all of your birds are so well done! Actually, I want to be there when you are training them to perch just so on the branch you've provided for them. :)

Sweet little bird Nick.
It's a lovely capture and its colours and details are very clear to see.

Good composition, DOF, OOF BG, POV and sharpness shown in the pic. I really like the fact that you have shown such detail of the subject and distanced the BG so well in this pic.

Hello Nicholas, very nice image of the Redpoll, good background, sharp shot and a beautiful composition, thanks!

Great shot, and especially well done being hand-held under those lighing conditions. Your composition is strong and I like the feeling of space which gives perspective to the size of the bird. Awesome.
