Calidris alba (Tr. Ak kumkuşu, In: Sanderling Ca: Territ tresdits Da: Sandlĝber De: Sanderling Es: Correlimos tridáctilo Fi: pulmussirri Fr: Bécasseau sanderling It: Piovanello tridattilo Nl: Drieteenstrandloper No: Sandlĝper Pt: Pilrito-das-praias Sv: Sandlöpare US: Sanderling Ru: Песчанка)

Recently I upladed five different Calidris species from Filyos. This time I coosed for you Calidris alba again, but an artistic frame.

In Turkey seven Calidris species were recorded.
*** C. alba
*** C. alpina
*** C. canutus
*** C. ferruginea
*** C. fuscicollis
*** C. melanotus
*** C. minuta

You can find photos of five of them in my gallery. C. fuscicollis and C. melanotus were recorded, however, nobody has their photos in Turkey yet.

Identification C. alba
In winter plumage their almost white, silvery plumage distinguishes them from both the longer-billed Dunlins and the smaller Little Stints. The contrasting black spot around the shoulder of the wing is another really useful feature. You have to become familiar with the size and shape of a Sanderling to confidently identify the juveniles with their spangled silver and black upperparts and the summer plumaged birds with their reddish upperparts heavily marked with black. In flight the pale wing bar is broader and more contrasting than in similar birds such as Dunlin or the stints.

Regards

Selam Mustafa,
Excellent shot of the bird...fantastic timing..i love the details where the water touching the feet of the bird has caused a tension in the wave.
Very well done.
TFS & cheers

A lovely action shot and its nice and sharp, which is hard to do when they are moving. Lovely composition and POV. The DOF is great too. A beautiful subject too. A great capture.

An elegantly beautiful capture of a Calidris during the antics of a take off or landing Mustafa, the exposure was just right to freeze almost all of the bird, but some "unfreezed" parts, such as the wing tips and a leg, convey a nice feeling of motion. TFS this my friend.

Hello Mustafa,

This is an excelent image with the bird starting its flight. You got a very good sharpness on bird's body and the unsharp tps of the wings suggest very well the mouvement. You have captured a very fine light too, showing well the plumage.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian
