The reason i like this one is the diagonal pose of the bird and being able to see the tongue .

NutHatch. ( Sitta europaea ) Length 14cm.
Recognised by rounded, short- tailed appearance and habit of descending tree trunks head downwards, a trait unique in Britain to this species. Has blue grey upperparts, black eyestripe, with white cheeks and a orange buff underparts.Chisel like bill use to prise insects from tree bark and to open acorns and nuts. A woodland species common in wales and southern England. Nest in tree holes often plastering the entrance with mud to reduce the size.

Hello Nick,
I knew, when I saw the thumbnail, this was a photo from you. Before I saw your name. The quality was in there and you got your own style. Fantastic photo and nothing to criticize. Just amazing, specially the tongue.

Hi Nick,

You capture your birds in the most wonderful positions! I agree with you about the tongue - we rarely get to see that. A wonderful diagonal pose on the branch. Colors and details are excellent. A superb background and composition.

Hello Nicholas,
Good moment and focus.
Well composed.
I also like that catchlight in its eye.

Hi Nicholas,

great diagonally shot of this Nuthatch.
Exellent details with beatiful colours.

Pa Pa

A shot that makes me feel sick with envy. The tongue is a superb addition to an all round 10/10 shot.

Little Mr Glen

Hi Nick,
A very good and sharp shot. I like the diagonal pose and the dark background which give good harmony to the photo. Interesting to see the orange side of the bird. In scandinavia, where I live, the nuthatch has just some thin orange strings close to the wings. The rest of the body is white. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Nicholas
excellent timing and excellent capture with perfect focus and POV. all features wonderful with ten points. You are lucky to have such nice place and species. But more importantly, you are a master bird photography. I enjoy to visit your great posts. Thanks for sharing, have a nice week.

Hi Nick, a lovely and excellent capture of this Nuthatch in a fine pose. Nice to see its tongue:) Very timly shot indeed.

Hi Nicholas!

This really is a particulr image, and you are right, th digonal composition is fine. Moreover, the sharpness is superb and shows rich detils. I also appreciate the expression of the bird and its position.

Kind regards

Ciao Nicholas,
stupenda cattura di questa sitta europea, eccellenti POV, DOF e composizione per la bellissima posa e l'ottimo BG, straordinaria definizione del piumaggio, magnifici i colori.

Hello Nick,
I just took about 10 shots of a Nuthatch this morning, when I was walking onder pine trees. But the light was very poor (800 ISO, f/5.6, 1/50) and the result is disappointing.
I'm happy to see your lovely nuthatch, with so nice details and colours. Maybe I can place some nuts on those trees to try others shots with a better light...
Thanks for sharing it and others beautiful birds,

One positive thing I can see right off is the grain of the wood goes right in theme and wave action with the patterned feathers of the bird...was that on purpose? I don't think so..I think you just got REAL lucky on this one Nick...Put this one away somewhere to keep for a rainy day...and from what I hear of GB, that should be any day of not now!

Hello Nicholas, this is a superb shot. Excellent eye catch and excellent pose.ganesh

Ah... the Nuthatch in its typical descending mode of operation. And I love the way the entire image... bird and background displays the same feeling of activity and excitement. He sees insects others miss when the others are constantly looking up. The Creator allows every niche to be filled by the many creatures in His creation. Wonderful capture and nicely presented Nicholas... TFS

Hello Nicholas,
due to lacking time, I usually look at insect and sometimes fungi pictures only. Only during holidays,
I have enough time to admire also bird pictures such as this one - a nicely natural capture of Sitta europaea.
The setting and the posure are beautiful. Surely, a great work requiring a lot of patience.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Nick,
