[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Western Spectre - Boyeria irene dragonnfly, which I already posted HERE.

This dragonfly can only be found in southern europe, and north of africa, and its habits are quite strange:

They are usually resting in the shadow, and I use to find it up side down, hanging from rock shelters of branches. (this photo is rotated 180º).

They prefer places where temperature is moderate in summer, they avoid high temperatures.

They are more active in the late evening, and not only hunt in the air, but can also be seen looking for insects in the holes of the walls.

It has a very strange way of flying, they fly low and move slowly in a very elegant way.

I also notice that the eye cells are very small compared to other dragonflies, even smaller than the damselflies I have captured. You can have a clores look in this WORKSHOP

Hope you like!

Hi again my friend!

I remember your original shot very well and i didn't even have to look at it again :) I also remember the debate on the exact ID :)

This is a fantastic close-up on this amazing species' eyes and you are right: the little hexagons are smaller than at other species. Your note on this is great and the workshop image comes well to support that.
Technically, the image is spot-on while the note is also terrific, telling us some more about this species we see very little of here on TN.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Felipe
Excellent macro, the detail is sharp and colours are awesome. The eyes are really interesting close up and so is the hair on it's body. Well done.
TFS Janice

What a great capture Felipe, especially since this Dragonfly is so small and your shot is handheld!
The workshop is fantastic too.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all the posts I've seen from you in the last 4 years (4 years on TN today),although I know I've missed a few too.I posted a few fungi recently that you might like too, especially a beautiful yellow Tremella lutescens
Hope you and Cristina are well.

Hi Felipe,

I like this kind of head-on portrait of dragonflies a lot because you see a wealth of unusual details. You applied a perfect technique. The use of the flash gives this picture an added boost. As i said, I like it.

Best regards
