Hi everyone,

Here is something different :)

As i walked through the woods a few days ago, i couldn't help looking at the beautiful pattern, textures and colors on the ground. Suddenly, my eyes were fixed on this bright leaf and i simply couldn't resist and took a shot. After looking at it, i realized that it didn't have anything special compared to other photos that i've seen recently on different photo-websites. The other thing i realized was that i needed quite a long shutter speed for such a static shot, due to the darkness of the place (remember...it's called the Black Forest). Connecting the dots, i remembered this effect: star-burst :) (rotating the zoom ring while taking a shot)

THIS IMAGE HASN'T BEEN PROCESSED FOR THIS EFFECT AT ALL! In fact, this is a full frame shot and the only thing i did to it is tweaked the curves a bit. That's it.

Hope you'll like it, too and thanks for visiting!

Great! Simly great Horia!
I had no idea that such fantastic effect can be done in so "easy" way!!! Thanks to you I just learned something new! :>
Artistic and beauty - these two words characterize your picture as for me :>
All the best from Lodz!
Greetings,
Radek

Hello Horia,
Never tried this...
You were succesful apparently. I know this technique. But due to the automatic focus in DSLR's, I considered it as something from the middle ages.
The effect is very good. Very enjoyable photo.

Merhaba Horia, zoom out efekti oldukça yakışmış bu kareye.Çok teknik bir çalışma olmuş.Güzel fotoğraf, ellerine sağlık,selamlar:)

hi Horia,
the right time for this beautiful composition
smart work of this graphical effect

have a nice day sERGIO

I have a photo such as this and it is some kind of accidental mistake by the camera I think..Yo uwould have to see it to believe it..everyone who sees it, thinks I manipulated it but I didn't...unfortunately you cannot see it here on TN because it is of 2 horses...however trust me here..Cameras can do some real strange things...almost a pathway to another plane..I would say to God, but do not want to offend...but that is my take on it...I have saved it as is...but could you send me a copy if you get a chance?! It is an amazing piece of work1b

Hi Horia
Art and nature - great effect with good explanation in your note. It is not PP work so it is allowed on TN. I must say that it looks great Very good job

Hi Horia,
I've always thought of doing this, but it always slipped my mind. Your photo is a great reminder and I think I just have to write it down to not forget it again, next to my multiple strar trail photo. The effect of the slow shutter with the dynamic zoom is awesome. Especially on such a subject as a colorful leave. It made an ordinary subject a highly artful composition. It will be added to my fav's and to the abstract theme.

Maybe another cool thing to try is to use a flash on the second curtain. This will combine this effect with a frozen moment.

It was interesting to see your EXIF data on this photo. While you zoomed during the exposure, the record shows a focal length of 70mm. I guess the camera records the data before the exposure.

TFS,
Niek

Mai, asa ceva nu am mai vazut pana acum! Fantastic! O idee faina, pusa in practica cu un rezultat excelent.

Hello Horia,
What a great idea! And the effect is amazing! Thanks for the tip.
The colours are well chosen and the central composition of the yellow leaf gives the right effect.
Great photo to look at, over and over.
Regards,
Peter

Great effect Horia!
You are a natural researcher, your experimental attitude can lead to great things!
As a work of photographic art this can win prizes.
It can even be regarded as being true to nature as we see it, especially when one has tear-filled eyes caused by the cold wind.
A fine contribution to show what can be done by the imaginative use of the camera without PP work or without the use of a studio.
Thanks for sharing this delight my friend,
Ivan

:)

Thats an amazing effect Horia.
I wonder if this would work with a compact by moving the zoom lever.
Hmmm,I'll have to try it.
Thanks for the cool shot.
Cheers
Steve

Salut Horia,

foarte interesanta compozitia. Culorile de toamna sunt expresive si degaja oarece melancolie.
Felicitari,

What a fantastic effect, Horia!
I've tried zoom-bursts a few times but have never had such a good result as this.
The effect draws the eye straight to the vibrent yellow leaf.
Very good sharpness.
Excellent colours.

Superb and original work!

Cheers mate,
Joe

This is one of the more interesting shots I've seen on TN. It is very cool! I'm not quite sure that I understand the process but I guess I have to loosen up a bit and experiment. Lovely work Horia!
