[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

I witnessed this scene today morning as it was holiday for us. I am not sure whether this is a "Mating Grasshopper".

Today I received a reply from the Research Department as follows :-

Really you clicked an exellent photograph. The grasshopper you spotted shows sexual dimorphism. It means their male and female have different appearance. The name is Atractomorpha sp. It belongs to the Pyrgomorphidae family of Grasshoppers (Order orthoptera).

Hi Ganesh. What a big contrast in size and not to mention the color. Sharp image in well exposed lighting captured in perfect timing. The clarity and shallow depth really pops out the image. Well captured movements of the moment and well done. Regards. Jusni

Hi Ganesh,
happy holidays for you ...
I love the moment - I'm sure they are mating - and it looks very nice with the different colours. The Asian grasshoppers have such interesting heads, so horny, I never saw such a one here in Europe. Thanks and greetings

Hello Narayanan,
such a life time opportunity, well grabbed and well presented.
Superbs clarity with lines and textures seen on both grasshoppers.
Excellent background and all give an impressive shot.
Beautiful composition.

NB: Thanks for the comment, I could see it is true.

Hello Narayanan,

The insect are shown with great sharpness in this nice photo. As you have used a good DOF both insects are fully in focus. Color rendering is very well done so that both insects and leaf beneath look very natural.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Narayanan . A big difference in the size and colour . you have captured a fine close up with good detail a nice POV. well done TFs.

Hi Ganesh,
Excellent capture of this pair of Grasshoppers mating. Amazing camouflaged outlooks: the other is mimicing fresh leave and the other a dry one. Good POV and composition, sharp interesting details, nice natural comlours.

Certainly a very odd looking pair Ganesh.
I have seen these grasshoppers on TN before, but cannot recall the species name.
(Perhaps it was one of Haraprassan or Sumons photos)
I hope you can find the ID for this curiou creature.

Hi Ganesh,

Hello Ganesh,
This is really a funny pair! Very different indeed the male and female, they don't want to look the same, I suppose..

Hi Ganesh

A very interesting capture here!
The look of these grasshoppers is very similar to our Acrida here and i've never seem one during mating...so thanks for that.
As you put it yourself, this isn't your best shot in terms of sharpness...it had a bit of motion blur, sadly, but other than that, the moment it catching is quite exquisite.
Very good side POV and nice control of the light, too.

Bravo and TFS
