Helophilus trivittatus, female

Dutch name: Citroenpendelzweefvlieg
French name: Hélophile à bandes grises

This species is not always obvious to identify with the help of the abdomen markings.

We can easily tell this species apart from the other flies belonging to this genus: they have no black facial stripe, but rather a yellow one.

In this genus, separation of the eyes is not an indication of the gender, both male and female have separate eyes. In male, the space between the eyes is shorter and from a top view the edges of the eyes are parallel. In female, the edges are divergent. I added a picture of a male in the WS for comparison.

Fanastic close-up shot of the Fly sitting on a white flowers, Marie. Couldn't think of a better contrast between the subject and its perch.
The focus is spot-on on the eyes and thorax. Those vertical lines on the thorax are the most distinct feature of this Fly.
