This was taken last Sunday in the New Forest . It was a dull cold day. I like the pose in this one with the bird looking behind the branch. This has not been cropped just resized with a frame and name for TN.

NutHatch. ( Sitta europaea ) Length 14cm.
Recognised by rounded, short- tailed appearance and habit of descending tree trunks head downwards, a trait unique in Britain to this species. Has blue grey upperparts, black eyestripe, with white cheeks and a orange buff underparts.Chisel like bill use to prise insects from tree bark and to open acorns and nuts. A woodland species common in wales and southern England. Nest in tree holes often plastering the entrance with mud to reduce the size.

Hello Nick,
Fantastic shot! This dark background is very nice to show the beautiful orange colours of the Nuthatch. The composition is great, simple and the sharpness perfect. You show us that evertthing is possible, even with bad weather. Thanks a lot,
Catherine

Hi Nick
Nice shot despite the dull conditions. I'm lucky in that a couple of Nuthatches visit the feeders on our balcony (4th floor flat in Central Bournemouth!) and they are a joy to watch. Good pose.

Hi Nick,

A beautiful Nuthatch and a wonderful pose. I love unusual poses and this one is terrific. The colors are marvelous against the black backgroud. Superb details of the entire bird. Another excellent composition. Apparently you are finding more birds there than I am here!

Jane

Hello Nick,

This looks like a shy, modest nuthatch with its head to one side!
The focus is pin sharp and you have captured all its plummage details with good accuracy.
I do like the composition, with the bird nicely balanced on the diagonal twig.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Excellent specimen, well captured in the frame, well done!

Artur

One fact in notes sticks out so well and it shows your true expertise.."This has not been cropped just resized with a frame and name for TN." That is in the news photo business what we call "Printed as seen through the viewfinder"...and in today's terms...What you see is what you get....It is number one rules for some...I bend them as we all do, but your not having to bend them shows the highest form of art!

Hi Nick.
Greatly framed and composed picture of lovely bird and cute scene. Pose of the bird is so attractive and quality of reproduction of the nuthatch and dry branch is top. I am impressed with nice dark BG. It looks like under flash light. However, as I can see the lighting was natural. Superb work, My best wishes and TFS.

Hi Nick

A really terrific close-up of this Nuthatch!
You are right, the pose is interesting and gives the photo is own character.
The fact that this is a full-frame shot really shows your excellent skills. The DOF is very well selected, the exposure is spot-on and the overall sharpness is exceptional.
The natural contrast with the BG is also a great bonus and completes your lovely presentation.

Hello Nicholas,
This is a very special picture, showing the Nuthatch in a very busy pose and with this nice dark background giving to the bird's plumage this nice luminosity. Beautiful shot!
Thanks
Have a nice week

Hello Nicholas,

Great shot.
Nice colours with good details.
Light,focus and colours are excellents.

Hi, Nick.
Beautiful bird. Excellent pose, sharpness, details and colors. Well composed too.

Hi Nick,
this is a superb capture of this nuthatch and to have such a background be so uniformly dark is amazing. There are zero distractions because of the background and the bird as a result sits out very vividly with strong colour and very nicely focused details. The head of the bird looks a wee bit over exposed but probably is more due to the exceptional contrast this photos has.A fine photo and thank you for sharing it with us. Bob
