[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

This two tiny flies, ca 7-8mm landed on my table in front of my chalet in the evening, when the sun was already very low, which explains this huge shadow. It was interesting to see the differences of male and females, the males having very huge eyes, the females just small ones. I'm not sure about the ID, because of the size, being quite smaller than most St Mark's flies I have seen. But they have charcteristics of this species and they might be of the same family.
It wasn't easy to take a good picture on this white table, but I think that the shot can be of some interest because it shows male and female.

Thanks to Marie-Christine and her suggestion:
It could eventually be Bibio lepidus

Hi Anne,
Yes, this is very interesting study of insects, the shadows made this image more dramatic. The flies, male and female, themselves good for comparison in the structure. tfs.

Bonsoir Anne,

this is a superb change of pace and a VERY unique idea...It is all alone in it's field..or genre or sub genre...Well thought out piece!

Hallo Anne.

This picture could be used for quality advertising anywhere in the world, Anne. Goodness gracious, I see a rainbow on the wing of one insect and their shadows on the grey surface create a wonderful effect!
You have created a fantastic picture from your unexpected confrontation with these flies.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing this picture.

Hi Anne,
Wonderful shot of these interesting flies with very impressive sharpness and fantastic lighting effects. Great mating pose captured and I like that larger than life shadow. Excellent DOF, POV and composition.

Hi Anne.
What an impressive and creative idea of your picture. Amazing shadows of the shot is key point I think. However, sharpness and details of the main subject (two attractive insects) are fantastic. Shot is composed greatly. Bravo and my compliments.

hello anne,
quite interesting capture, the shadows give different touch to the shot, liked the pov and the composition, we can compare the make and the female quite well here,
well done,
tfs & regards
