Great Blue Turaco - Corythaeola cristata

This bird is a turaco, a group of African near-passerines. It is the largest turaco, generally ranging from 70-75 cm in length with a mass between 822-1231 grams. In the Bandundu province of the D.R.C. (formerly Zaire) the Great Blue Turaco is actively hunted for meat and feathers. The blue and yellow tail feathers are prized for making good luck talismans. In the area of Bandundu around the town of Kikwit, it is called "Kolonvo".

Hallo Joe
This is a super shot of a beautiful bird. I have seen many Turaco's before but not this one as yet. It is very fascinating and interesting. This one is indeed an eye-catcher, especially that swanky tuft on its head. The red and yellow beak places the cherry on the cake and rounds of this beautiful photo. Framing and presentation are done very pleasantly in this lovely portrait.
Kind regards
Anna

Hi Joe

Great portrait of another rather rare bird here on TN - this Great Blue Turaco!
I like the strong close-up on the head of the bird, showing us how multicolored it really is.
The details are excellent (especially on that vivid beak) and the exposure is well handled, since this time you didn't use any flash.
I also like the uniform BG here, which i think goes well to bring out the colors of the bird's plumage.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

PS: i got you e-mail. I also think that if we are 10 we can start deciding on stuff...times grows shortly :)
