I took this way back in September 07 when I was doing the moth-trap once every few days. This species appeared only once and I don't have a clue what it is... can anyone help me?

I captured this moth with my old Canon Powershot S3 IS with a Raynox DCR-250 attached :-)

I hope you like it!

*Update: Thanks very much to Krzysztof for the I.D. I now know that this is a Sallow Moth :-)

The Sallow - Xanthia icteritia

Wingspan 27-35 mm.

A common species in most of Britain, occupying damp woodland, heathland and marshy places. It is quite variable, with the relatively frequent ab. flavescens having the darker markings almost absent.

Like many of its congeners, it flies in the autumn, in September and October and is a frequent visitor to both sugar and light.

Again, like similar species, the larvae feed at first on sallow (Salix) catkins, and then later on herbaceous plants.

Nice picture of moth but i feel the front legs would have been very sharp than this.

Hello Joe,
I didn't know you had a moth trap!
I used to run one for many years and I still have my old one but I don't have it on much in case I get complaints from the neighbours!
This is a great macro of a Sallow Moth taken from a fine dorsal POV with good use of flash and great sharpness and colours.
TFS this beauty,

Hi Joe,
Very beautiful image of this moth, good colors and details, its lovely. tfs.

I knew it was a moth but there are so many....very good archival Joey. one can tell just how far you have come from this...not that it is in any way "bad" but a good comparison of techniques! We put quotes around bad becuase of the proper English way of removing or changing the meaning in some such way....not sure how many know of that rule of English...it is one that is not used much. Some used parens with an ersatz or some such other disclaimer,

Hi Joe. Now you have gone a long way back into your archives. When you still had the small camera. well this was still a good picture with the detail and colour. But it also shows how you to have moved on with yourskills. well done TFS.

Hi Joe,
More great works from your archives. Very good capture of this beautiful Sallow Moth; great POV and composition, sharp details and beautiful colours.

Excelente toma Joe, teniendo en cuenta que esa textura y color tienen mucha dificultad para su captura. Muy bien encuadrada. Una fotografía magnífica.
Buen fin de semana: Josep Ignasi.

I like this shot for its sharpness, the vibrant natural colours and the frame!
Very well done, bro!

Whatever it is, it sure is pretty. :)
The pattern and color is unusual, isn't it?
Wonderful capture. I like the way the flash worked here.
