The Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) is one of the three subspecies of the Eastern Gorilla. There are two groups. One is found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa, within 4 national parks: Mgahinga, in south-west Uganda; Volcanoes, in north-west Rwanda; and Virunga and Kahuzi-Biéga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The other is found in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Some say that the Bwindi group in Uganda is a 3rd species, though no description has been finished.

Information source

In the photo we can see the smallest gorilla Zirikana and her mother Umurimo (oo-moo-reemo) of the group Umubano (oo-moo-baano) formed by 9 members, Charles is the big Silver Back. Zirikana it had 10 weeks in the moment of the photo.

A very difficult photo by the conditions of light, and by the environmental humidity in a rainy day and a rainy forest. The immense satisfaction to secure this pic at 1600 ISO, 1/40, 4.5, tripod aprox in monopod.

In Workshop the happy autor with a Silver Back Charles in the back.

Hallo Ferran
This scene captured here is to me one of those which proofs just once again that when Mother Nature is in operation, all else stands still. This little fellow has got lovely big eyes and it looks as if he had a haircut with a blunt scissors. The expression on the mothers face shows signs of patience and pride for having her youngster so close to her. Thanks for sharing this delightful image despite the weather conditions. It is much appreciated.
Kind regards

Hola Ferran,
You are a lucky man to have been able to see the Mountain Gorilla in its threatened habitat.
This is a charming close portrait of a mother and child taken with fine sharpness and lighting. The foto of you at work in that habitat in the WS is nice to see too.

Hi Ferran,

I wonder how many others besides me are green with envy. How marvelous to see these wonderful gorillas in their natural habitat. This is the most beautiful portrait of mother and child. The love between them is as obvious as between a human parent and offspring. The eyes are unbelievable. Excellent natural colors and fine details of the faces and fur. A beautiful setting and composition and something to treasure forever.

very nice family pic, TFS Ori

Ciao Ferran,

Hi Ferran
Great moment and experience to capture the expression on the mountain gorillas faces.
tfs jon

Nice ahot. The eyes look captivating. You have captured a tender moment. Thanks fot sharing.

Hello Ferran,
Wonderful expressions...photographed at a precise moment.
Very difficult conditions indeed but still quality.
Awesome eyes and a great communication between the animals and you apparently. Must have been some kind of meeting in Rwanda.

Quel joli couple ! Joli portrait d'une maman avec son bébé.
Bon dimanche à toi.

Hello Ferran,

Perfect timing. With all the nudity in the tranquility and depth view of the square reflected. Trust and compassion we need to see a small gorilla, a mother gorilla in self-confidence appears to provide. In terms of image quality and the integrity of photographic composition is very successful. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment you view.

Best Regards,
