[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Bembix is a genus of large digger wasps. The nest is always dug in very dry sandy soil, and the mother feeds her larvae with captured flies (often tabanidae - Horseflies - in this case). Each larva will need ten to twenty flies to complete its cycle.
The peculiar strategy of Bembix is rather stunning : each nest contains only one growing larva, and each mother has several such nests going at the same time, but of course at different stages. This means the insect has to remember not only the locations of several nests, but also the stage they are at : an old larva consumes much more food and more quickly than a very young one.
To make things even more complicated, nothing marks the presence of a nest from the outside (to our eyes anyway) and many females often nest in close proximity to each others!

This one is a male.

Hello Philippe,
Beautiful sharp-detailed macro in clear and well saturated colours. Good POV.

Hallo Phillipe
Wow this is really a great macro. Amazing colours and very pleasant light. Marvellously blurred background, which emphasize this insects beautiful details. Just love the composition bringing the subject so close to the eye. This way one can observe and appreciate the finer details even better. A beautiful photo from your lens, and well presented close-up. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

Very close and very crisp sharp also beautiful shot you have,

Bonjour Philippe

Excellent macro of this beautiful wasp on a prety blue flower.
Great sharpness and composition. Great DOF. Good note too.

Hello Philippe!
Nice capture of this Bembix species, not known for me before. In Poland we have similar species, Bembix rostrata (you can compare it here). I like composition (it is not easy to take a picture of this wasp on the flower), and colours.
Note is also interesting and informative :)
