[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here's a Hedgehog which I photographed at Elmley Marsh.
This guy must have been ill or disoriented seeing as he was awake in the day and standing in the middle of the path! After photographing him, he shuffled off into the shrubs, so hopefully he will be ok!

I hope you like it!

A hedgehog is any of the small spiny mammals of the subfamily Erinaceinae and the order Erinaceomorpha. There are 16 species of hedgehog in five genera, found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand. There are no hedgehogs native to Australia, and no living species native to North America; those in New Zealand are introduced. Hedgehogs have changed little over the last 15 million years. Like many of the first mammals they have adapted to a nocturnal, insectivorous way of life. The name 'hedgehog' came into use around the year 1450, derived from the Middle English 'heyghoge', from 'heyg', 'hegge' = hedge, because it frequents hedgerows, and 'hoge', 'hogge' = hog, from its piglike snout. Other folk names include 'urchin', 'hedgepig' and 'furze-pig' .

Hello Joe!
Nice portrait of European Hedgehog, rather common mammal but rarely presneted in TN gallery. Details and DOF are perfect, I like also low POV and eye-contact.
Bravo and TFS!
Friendly yours,

Hi Joe
You were lucky to find this hedgehog in the daylight. A good shot of this normally nocturnal mammal with good light to bring out the details of the hair and bristles.
Kind Regards

Hello Joe,
Lovely close-up of this Hedgehog! I love them, we had a family in our last garden and they often seemed to enjoy themselves basking in the sunlight! I don't expect its sight is too good though in the bright light! Fine sharp details and lovely light and colours. Well done!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Joe!

As Radek wrote - rather common animal, but I saw it only twice. You had great opportunity and took very nice close-up of this cute mammal. I like shinning nose and eye.

Hello Joe, a lovely shot of a hedgehog. i love its facial expression very much.

I think you may have to wait a few days but you do know Hester loves these right? I think she is the Queen of Hedgehog lovers...someone once told me they roll up into a ball and are used for croquette? Is that true?!

Hi Joe,
I remember this reluctant model of yours very well. He did not escape but he was not so willing to pose either. Excellent close-up shot with good POV and composition, fine sharp details and beautiful evening lighting.

Increíble documento Joe. Aquí esta especie está desapareciendo.
Enhorabuena por tan bella captura.

Another of your fantastic close-ups! The details, colors and shadings of the coat is amazing. I just love the little ear poking out, the magnificent eye, and the cute little nose. A great setting and composition. I hope he's okay.

Hi Joe

This is a cracking shot of a hedgehog. I have these in my garden but mine are strictly night visitors and they don't like light. Amazing sharp details, lovely light and a superb POV!

Now why can't I find a daylight loving hog! I'm so jealous.

P.S. don't listen to Bob I would never indulge in ball sports with hedgehogs...they make much better door-stops

An unusual little beastie this one is.
Well seen and captured by you.
The textures of the fur show well and the focus and details are sharp.
We do not see many hedgehogs here on TN.
